Members Whalebot Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 From the UMGF (this is a UMGF Members dillemma, not mine) Just wanted some opinions. So back in June, i bought my Martin OM John Mayer. Its a FANTASTIC guitar...I love all the specs and it feels very comfortable to me. however the problems is, i dont like John Mayer...to the point that i tend not to take this guitar out of the house. (its stupid, but i get very concious of it). If i had known this is how i would treat a signature martin, i wouldnt have bought it in the first place. (but back then i was thinking, i dont care what anyone thinks, its a great guitar to me and thats all that matters) I don't feel so fickle all of the sudden.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 wow... that's kinda nuts... did you send him any tips for selling it?
Members SpaceCowboy409 Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 That's a fella who's WAY too self conscious. 99% of the general population wouldn't notice or care.
Members Whalebot Posted December 5, 2006 Author Members Posted December 5, 2006 It is a pretty nice guitar, but it is 1 11/16ths nut.
Members mmb Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 The only things that make it a "John Mayer" guitar are the signature on the 20th fret and the soundhole lable, right? It's not like the guitar is electric pink or something. That guy has issues, I've never run into someone that gave a crap what artist model I was playing. In fact, I had a Martin and an old Fender DG out and I had people asking "Why not play the Fender?" because they had heard of THAT name.
Members SpaceCowboy409 Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 The top is Engleman spruce, the regular 0M-28 is Sitka. It also has a slim neck carve and some "interesting" inlay work based on some designs found on John's wristwatch. Honest, I didn't make that up.

I will never understand why people have issues with Mayer. He's a better guitar player and songwriter than 99% of the people on all of these internet forums. We used to call guys like him "posers" back in the '80's. He probably sucks and uses that as his reason not to play out.
Members DerBown Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 A friend of mine does have a Cort PW310R. He absolutly loves the sound and the finish (?). The problem is that he hates "Cort". So he designed a beautiful sticker with his name, that he sticked right on the "Cort" name on the headstock... Any time someone asks "what's you guitar brand ?" he says proudly : "It's MY guitar"... Does it give you ideas ?
Members sufidancer Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 Mayer can play the hell outta a strat. But to many faces per note.

BUT... nobody would probably ever realize that it has a JM signature... even if they did... "yeah i don't like him, but damn, he has good taste in guitars" the end... it sounds like he's ditching a guitar that's perfect for him because of an inlay and a paper label... different strokes...
Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 5, 2006 Members Posted December 5, 2006 furthermore, can someone who is a member over there ask this guy why he bought it in the first place?
Members t3golf Posted December 6, 2006 Members Posted December 6, 2006 i mean, if its really that bad, i'll give u my address and he can just ship it to me. heck i'll even pay for the s&h. come on now, there's no use in lettin a perfectly good martin go to waste.-Jeff
Members mpquin Posted December 6, 2006 Members Posted December 6, 2006 GROW UP!! You like the guitar then play it. If you don't like or appreciate John Mayer, simply don't listen. BTW, I am sure that you have no idea of exactly how good a player he is. Listen to his very early solo acoustic stuff..you'll learn a few things. This board used to provide valuable information from musicians that loved the acoustic guitar. It has become a playground for immature wannabees that have no idea of real music. So many useless posts by uninformed people. Please take your ridiculous rants to your Myspace page.

Hey, I posted this from another site showing that someone was pretty fickle about having a sig on a guitar. Worthy discussion in my book. Calm down, everything will be fine, go to your happy place.
Members Godot Posted December 6, 2006 Members Posted December 6, 2006 At least the John Mayer model is subtle.

Members Whalebot Posted December 6, 2006 Author Members Posted December 6, 2006 Reading is fundamental.
Members viguitar Posted December 6, 2006 Members Posted December 6, 2006 Is that guitar called a Om John Mayer, or does it have a number originally like Om28
Members guit30 Posted December 7, 2006 Members Posted December 7, 2006 Send it to me, love the slim neck, 111/16 nutJim
Members zb0430 Posted December 8, 2006 Members Posted December 8, 2006 Those are very very nice guitars, especially the first run of limited edition ones. Beautiful tone, just wish they had a 1 3/4" nut. But you definitely pay for a Martin signature series... If you like a guitar and its tone, and you paid for it... don't keep it in its case because the name written in abalone isn't to your liking...
