Members recordingtrack1 Posted December 9, 2006 Members Posted December 9, 2006 I know that this is the Acoustic Forum, but there's nobody on the electric side I care enough to tell. I just pulled the trigger on this and I wanted you guys to see it. I'm going to hot rod it with some Rio Grande's. http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&ih=009&sspagename=STRK%3AMEWN%3AIT&viewitem=&item=190059786416&rd=1&rd=1 I SWEAR this is the last one I'm going to buy! Members knockwood Posted December 9, 2006 Members Posted December 9, 2006 Congrats, man! Beautiful git. I've always liked Epi LP's. Killer maple top.
Members RKO Posted December 9, 2006 Members Posted December 9, 2006 She's a beauty. I just sold an Epi LP classic. I think yours is prettier than the one I sold.
Members 0rbitz9 Posted December 10, 2006 Members Posted December 10, 2006 I've got an old Epiphone Les Paul standard with the cherry burst flame top. I found it in a used record shop that sells a few used guitars as well. The guitar was in very good condition, and the price was right, so it was too good to pass up. I'm quite happy with the sound of my stock pickups. They cover quite a bit of range, from mellow jazz, to bright biting leads, and have plenty of output. Are you going for a specific sound by using the Rio Grande pickups, or do you think they're just better overall?
Members recordingtrack1 Posted December 10, 2006 Author Members Posted December 10, 2006 Thanks guys! I realize you guys, for the most part, ain't even into electrics but I had to show this thing off. I have had several email exchanges with the seller and I really believe I got lucky. He's telling me very good things about it. I really like the dark cherry flame top. A friend owns a music store. We have A/B/C'd the Epi stock pick ups against Seymour Duncan's and Rio Grande pick ups. By far, the Rio's are more sonic or harmonic or something. They are hotter and if this makes sense, they sound more "musical". I also have heard them in a couple of strats and I seriously recommend them for that as well. They have stock covers as well. Hey Orbitz, I really like Gary Moore's "Still Got The Blues" and I have finally got a pretty good handle on it. I love the sound of his Les Paul and I want to be able to get that. RT1:D (
Members Cldplytkmn Posted December 10, 2006 Members Posted December 10, 2006 P-90's!!! for some reason every time i see a LP i just want p90s in it... i'd love one of those LP junior flat tops with the p90s... in yellow of course...
Members daklander Posted December 10, 2006 Members Posted December 10, 2006 The guy was selling it for a friend yet he replaced the original pickup? Hmmm.... Nice lookin' axe.
Members recordingtrack1 Posted December 11, 2006 Author Members Posted December 11, 2006 FWIW-----I GOT IT, I GOT IT, I GOT ITI am absolutely amazed. This guitar is like brand new. Book matched flame maple top. perfect condition. NO DINGSThe onlly flaw is the plugged sound. The bridge 498 sounds better than the stock pick up, just like the seller said, but I will add some Rio Grande's in a few weeks. Probably after Christmas.Hey, I wonder if my wife has purchased my Christmas gift yet????Anyway, sorry to ressurrect this dead thread, I just wanted to vent. Vent in a good way, like halleleujah!Disclaimer: I know this is the AG forum, but hey. RT1:) :) :)

Members carguy Posted December 12, 2006 Members Posted December 12, 2006 I've been gassing too for a Les Paul. I'd love to get a Gibson, but I don't have the money right now. Glad you could swing the Epiphone. I guess I should do the same thing. That's a really beautiful guitar!

Members Terry Allan Hall Posted December 13, 2006 Members Posted December 13, 2006 Nice, RT1! Epiphone has, over the last decade, really been putting out some nice stuff for the price!...a buddy of mine asked my help in picking out a Epi SG and the one we chose was 99% of the quality of the Gibson version, for about 1/8 of the price! While there, I fell deeply in lust w/ a Epi LP Jr. that I might get after I get the rest of my Xmas/Solstice/Kwanzaa/Chanukah/etc. shopping done...
Members tclune Posted December 13, 2006 Members Posted December 13, 2006 We just modified an Epi LP classic by dropping a Bartolini PBF 55 in the neck and a PBF 57 in the bridge. We swapped out the tone pots with push/pulls. With both push/pulls in, the LP is a standard series wiring and sounds unbelievable. Pull the neck tone control and the neck pup becomes wired as a split coil. Sounds like a completely noise-free strat, but with presence that a strat can only dream of. Pull the bridge pot and the same thing happens for the bridge pup. The guitar looks absolutely stock, but sounds like something Heaven-sent..
