Members DeathCrow Posted December 18, 2006 Members Posted December 18, 2006 Hey fellas I'm new here to these awesome forums!! I picked up this Spanish Electric guitar at a garage sale for $20, replaced the tailpiece(GuitarFetish), Bridge, and knobs. Does anyone have the slightest idea what kind of guitar this may be? Looks to have been refinished at one point. Has the number 57374 stamped on the headstock but no other legible identification. Sounds awesome especially with a slide. I have been scratching my head since summer over who manufactured this guitar. Any help would be great! Thanks again! http://s116.photobucket.com/albums/o22/Deathcrow666_photo/
Members daklander Posted December 18, 2006 Members Posted December 18, 2006 Can't help but that looks like one hell of a deal.
Members AK47 Posted December 18, 2006 Members Posted December 18, 2006 The heastock makes me believe that it is an old Harmony archtop that has been hot rodded and electrified. Alot of people have done this and they can make nice guitars. I've considered doing this myself. Check Harmony archtop acoustic guitar on e-bay and you will see simular guitars. Sounds like you got a great deal congrats.
Members guitarist21 Posted December 18, 2006 Members Posted December 18, 2006 I agree with AK47. The old tailpiece looks exactly like one on an old Harmony I have. Congrats! Looks like a great find. Ellen
Members 0rbitz9 Posted December 18, 2006 Members Posted December 18, 2006 I'd venture to guess that this might have been an Epiphone Century guitar made somewhere around 1950. Here's a pic from one made in 1941:http://www.robwesley.com/guitars/Epiphone%20Century%201941.jpg Here's one from 1956:http://www.provide.net/~cfh/epicen59.jpg
Members T.B. Posted December 18, 2006 Members Posted December 18, 2006 I agree with the others, looks like a Harmony Arch-top, by the headstock. This could be a modified Harmony Arch-top acoustic or it could be Harmony's "Hollywood" electric archtop; they made this model with one or two pickups with a blender. It appears someone modified a "Hollywood" if that's the model. Nice git anyway.Checkout Harmony's Guitar Database:http://harmony.demont.net/http://harmony.demont.net/model.php?id=50Trina

Members Roy Brooks Posted December 20, 2006 Members Posted December 20, 2006 My guess, although it does look somewhat Harmonyesque, is a fifties or early sixties Teisco or Guyatone. The string retainer on the headstock doesn't look like Harmony to me.

I didn't notice the string retainer until you brought it up, so i'm inclined to think you're right about it being a Teisco, because besides that feature, the P/U is a Teisco "Electron", too. Slightly possible that someone added both features later, but I'm now inclined to think that it's more likely to have been made like that originally. Still, if the neck is good, it's a heckava deal for $20.
