Members Cripes Posted January 2, 2007 Members Posted January 2, 2007 I'm working on a saddle to adjust the string height to about 5/64 on the Low E. PITA.

I've always shot for that on the high E and about 6/64 on the low. Its an even bigger PITA if you go too low and have to come back up

Sand-a-little, check-a-little, etc. I don't have a hard attack or use flatpick so I'm pretty safe at that height. I just need to complain about it a little. The low E started at 1/8th" and that is the Brooklyn Bridge for me. I play way up the register and use full barre chords there. I need as much help as I can get. The neck relief looks good. However, there is none that I can see on my other guitar and that action is a bit high. I'll complain about that when I get to it. Thanks Freeman. I'll peruse that link.
Members Bilbo Posted January 3, 2007 Members Posted January 3, 2007 Cripes is right. Forget the measuring. Each guitar is different. I file/sand a little, etc. with old strings on 'cause I'm going to take them off several times. I know it's right when I pick the strings REAL hard, harder than I would ever play, and just begin to hear a buzz. Some guitars set higher, some lower, but measuring is what the factory setters do, and factory setup always sux without exception.
