Members Stazinish Posted January 5, 2007 Members Posted January 5, 2007 I currently have an Alvarez RD8, but I want something new. Not too expensive. What kind of acoustics do Opeth use?

What kind of acoustics do Opeth use? Who the heck is Opeth... Could we see a pic? What else are you looking for in an acoustic? Similar to your Alvarez? Maybe then we could help you figure something out. Ellen

Members simplygoodmusic Posted January 5, 2007 Members Posted January 5, 2007 Opeth is a fantastic progressive death metal band, who do a lot of mellower stuff. I've seen them use martin OMs, though I cant really tell you which one exactly. BUt most of the time they run their PRS's through a boss gt-8, set on an acoustic simulator, and into their laneys.
Members guitarist21 Posted January 5, 2007 Members Posted January 5, 2007 I don't know Opeth, but after reviewing some pics on a Google image search (and reviewing Queg's pic ) I'm going to guess that simplygoodmusic is right on target with his answer.Stazinish, if you could provide us with more information about what kind of acoustic you're looking for, what you like in an acoustic guitar, or what it is about your Alvarez that you want to go a step up from, that'd be great.Ellen

Yeah I don't really know what I want in an acoustic. I was just hoping for some suggestions on some decent cheaper ones. I've only played a few.

Best thing to do is to go to your local mega-guitar store and sit and play for a while. Make mental notes of what sounds good to you. Then come back and say what you liked and what price range you're looking in. From there you'll get lots of suggestions.
Members GarysBlues Posted January 6, 2007 Members Posted January 6, 2007 Whats wrong with the RD8? LISTEN.........for the kind of cash you have invested in the RD8. you will NOT FIND a better sounding Acoustic! I played a RD8 and personally i thought it sounded BETTER than the Big Baby Taylor I also A/B'd it with! Thats a seriously good sounding guitar for the dollars. You would have to spend at least 6 bills to own a better built/sounding acoustic! The PROBLEM with YOUR Alvarez? Its a Laminated top! Which is to bad! Cause other than that its a Fine Acoustic!

Kind of like someone asking, "uh, what kind of acoustic guitar did Dimebag play." Anyway, Opeth is a prog rock/metal band. I personally wouldn't describe them as death metal (which I don't listen to), but I got one of their albums - Blackwater Park - on the advice of a fellow forumite over on GJ. They're pretty good - not the thrash metal kind of stuff I was half-expecting, but then again, it's not like listening to Doc Watson or Norman Blake.
