Members Tony Burns Posted January 8, 2007 Members Posted January 8, 2007 I am looking for a OM or 000 style guitar , mahogany back and sides with a cutaway and electronics that are not cut into the side of the guitar , plus i dont want it to send me to the poor house . Over the weekend i played a Blueridge BR-143ce , which impressed me , it had a really nice sound - but I hated how the electronics were cut into the sides of the guitar plus the neck was not wide enough for me - its price was reasonable , think the quality was good - love how the OM profile felt , not as deep as a Dread - smaller and easier to handle . i also played a Guild GAD-30re which also impressed me , but it was rosewood and no cutaway - i loved the electronics thou ( and its neck profile etc. ), just wish it was Mahogany and had a cutaway - I own a Martin OM-28v , but its V neck hurts my hand when I play it for long periods of time , plus its not the fastest neck ive ever played ( Im keeping it thou - dont ask ) My ideal guitar would have : OM-000 style , Mahogany back and sides ,Wide Ebony fingerboard ( Ebony not mandatory) , cutaway with built in electronics ( no body cuts ) and not break the bank - is their anything out their , or is this a nice dream ?
Members Whalebot Posted January 8, 2007 Members Posted January 8, 2007 Buffalo Bros has a nice 000-18 with a cutaway. Exp. though. Other than that you're looking at a bunch of barn doors, thats how these guitars are made unfortunately, perhaps the Breedloves?
Members min7b5 Posted January 8, 2007 Members Posted January 8, 2007 Hmm, maybe a used larrivee OM. Personally I'd go for the OM over the OOO for the longer scale, more volume, snap, easier to play up high... add a K&K Pure Mini yourself for under a hundread:)

If my search criteria were the same, I'd get a Larri OMV-03 and slap some aftermarket electronics in there.

Larrivee on the other hand, does offer some cuts on the 03s without built in electronics... dave at guitaradoptions has an OMV-05 which may fit the bill depending on how much you wanna spend. http://www.guitaradoptions.com/store/product.php?productid=17111&cat=257&page=7 i know that they did make OMV-03s, but have stopped making the cutaways on the 03 OMs... i looked at all the dealers i could think of, but couldn't track one down.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 8, 2007 Members Posted January 8, 2007 we're all a bunch of larrivee whores around here...
Members kwakatak Posted January 8, 2007 Members Posted January 8, 2007 There are a couple of OMV-03's (in mahogany and rosewood) over at Notableguitars.com too.
Members bsman Posted January 8, 2007 Members Posted January 8, 2007 I'm going to pipe up for the Tacomas. A tacoma EM (Mini-jumbo, Mahogany back and sides) is a comfortable (1.75" nut, size that's just about the same as 000 but maybe a bit deeper) great-sounding guitar. I have an EM9 that is now a bit of a beater, still plays like 'buttah' and sounds rich and smooth. This model should fit you to a "t". You should be able to find a used EM9 or EM10 for no more than $400.
