Preliminary Thread #1 For HCAG Album

This aught to generate some posts.

Here's what I think:

1)All songs should preferabley be originals, but covers are cool too. Someone in-the-know will need to deal with copyrights and permission and all that.

2)Anything goes. Solos, bands, trios, duos, whatever. Heck, it does'nt even have to be "acoustic guitar". Do a piano solo if you like, I'd love to hear it.

3)Regular posters only, IMO. But we can talk about it. Reason being, I would'nt want the likes of hrHodes3 demanding he get a track on our album. We're a pretty close community here, we welcome anyone, but we're quick to toss a troll out on his ass, as it should be. And who knows, by the time it gets off the ground (if it does) those who might be n00bs now could be oldtimers by then.

4) Later for four. 5?

5)We'll need to talk about how to make the technical stuff happen. I realy don't think it'll be that big a deal. Put your recording on a disc and send it to whoever's gonna compile it all onto one. I actualy have a rig that can do it, but it's sitting around collecting dust and I don't realy know how to run it. Maybe I'll get a handle on it in the near future...Otherwise someone els will need to do it. However, I do know some people who might be helpful.

6)Am I nuts? Probly.

7)Every good sermon should have seven points, but I'm at a loss as to what the seventh should be at this time. Any suggestions?

This post was only slightly influenced by Bourbon, and will be subject to much further editing I'm sure.

JT, great idea, I have a song that I could put on it from a few years ago with acoustic guitar, bass, lead guitar and female backup. We could find a common person or maybe someone here to master it and do a short run on it, a lot cheaper than pressed discs. What would we do with it??

Listen to it, play frisby with it, use 'em for coasters.

Well, I could really use some coasters...

We need Whale's righteous recorder jam in there...

i'm down... i've spent the last three hours trying to get this laptop i found setup for recording my demos... so we're on the same wavelength...

I can't help with your "open" points, i have nothing to contribute there, but surely one of my newer tunes will 'make the cut'...

I'm going to start posting with more regularity so that when the time comes, I'll be more recognizable. Sound good? Good.

Great idea!

Sounds great.

I'm a recording caveman, but I'm willing to give it a shot if you guys are cool with me using my electric guitar for some mellow clean tones. It will be easier for me to record without any outside noise if I go electric (I can go straight into my laptop via the line out on my amp). I will also be able to record late at night without waking up my pregnant wife. Pregnant woman are more dangerous than Knock's lions when they get woke up in the middle of the night. :D

Count me in. I've already got a couple of originals on my putfile page but if the quality is bad I'll beg my wife for more gear and see about recording them again! :freak:

Hey Hud, in reading up on the Bad Monkey I see that it has a line out for mixer use so you could conceivably lay down some overdriven electric guitar tracks.

Hey, I don't think "recording quality" matters. If you're happy with it, it's in. Just make sure it's something YOU can live with.

You know, I think all we need is someone to compile it all, master it, and send it off to a disc pressing place, get say, 1000 copies pressed, call it a day.

Cover art.

I'd love to do some cover art - what sort of thing do you have in mind? I can do up a couple samples...but what would be really cool is if we got a couple people to do some stuff and had a vote or something. Y'know. Democratic and whatnot.

Skills wise I will decline, but I've been around for a year or so - I hope I get to hear it. I always knew it would be impossible to pull off a gathering and jam - so this could be a real good thing!

Skill is'nt an issue. If you suck and you know it, contribute anyway. But like what was mentioned above, make sure YOU are happy with it.

The possibillty of a gathering/jam is not out of the question.

I like the idea. My major obstacle will be finding someone who has the equipment to do the recording.

About covers - If we don't make any money off this, can we avoid getting our individual asses sued off?

I guarantee you I'm the worst player in this forum. Plus I have no recording equipment. But I will gladly buy a POS recording device and subject the lot of you to the abomination of my playing and singing 'cause I think this is a very cool idea. Don't decline, man.

I think the way to go is having everybody burn their tune onto a disc and mail it to one person... that person can use "creative wavestudio" (comes with windows xp i believe) to compile the WAV files together and regulate volume... as far as real mastering goes, it will probably not be terribly effective since everyone's recording will have different recording methods.

i'd love to see the cover art be a collage of our avatars
