Members knockwood Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 I thought my desire to build had more or less permanently put a cap on GAS. As it happens, though, because of a logistical PITA (I'm moving in a few months, can't set up any semblance of a workshop just yet), I am for the moment reduced to WAS (buying the odd piece of wood from LMI and storing them in my disheveled office)... And the delay in getting started has allowed my mind to form dangerous questions like, "Do I really want to wait the several years it will take me to know how to build a git worth its weight in petrified poo before I own another good guitar?" The long answer: No. Enter Clippity with pics - and avatar (rat bastid) - of very possibly the most attractive piece of topwood I have ever seen... and that damn Larri website... and frickin' 48th Street within hellishly quick walking distance from my office, and that accursed Larri forum where the shiny happy Larri people gush sunshine 24/7 over their perfect gits... and then I was dumb enough to do the Larri online factory tour thing... Son of a...
Members Dan Hall Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 Ok, here's what you do. Just get out something soft and sensitive, like a thumb or something;) and lay it out on the table there in front of you. Then take and hit it with a ball peen hammer. That should take your mind off Larri's for awhile

Been doing that all week, but all it does is get me thinking, "Man, my thumb would feel a lot better right now if it were cuddled up against the bass strings of a nice L body..."
Members Whalebot Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 Maybe you should buy a Larrivee. Just a suggestion.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 i guess i'm an 'enabler' then... i can live with that... for all i know, the beauty of my 'topwood' could be a defect that could complete disolve in five years... i can also live with that cause it'll be a damn good five years.

Yeah but I wish you could show the WHOLE top. There just isn't a bad thing to say about it.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 well... i'm gonna let you guys in on a secret... with that damn 9.8 kb restriction on avatars, i couldn't get any of the pictures of my larri resized, smooshed enough to make it under the line, so i ripped this other larri hogger off guitaradoptions and tricked you all.
Members knockwood Posted January 13, 2007 Author Members Posted January 13, 2007 Maybe you should buy a Larrivee. Just a suggestion. Will do. Problem is that the people who have 'em keep insisting that I trade money for one (fu*king annoying, everyone and their obsession with getting money in return for goods). Won't have any of that stuff until March. Man, does spring seem far off... When I was a kid, we didn't have any of this fancy paper money. If you wanted a guitar, you traded up goats or unusual rocks or one of your children. Things were simpler then.

Ah, no matter, really. The most visually stunning element of your L top is the dark streaks at the edges of the lower bout. Son of a...

Members Hudman Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 Buy an L-03. You get the Larrivee experience and can still afford to eat.
Members knockwood Posted January 13, 2007 Author Members Posted January 13, 2007 Buy an L-03. You get the Larrivee experience and can still afford to eat. I need to eat less. Here's the thing. I want a hogger in my stable, but I have the wrong one. I like my D-1, but a 1-11/16" hog dread is just a wrong fit for me. I want something slightly smaller and with a wider fretboard, so an L is the obvious target. The only reason I'm even considering anything above the 03 series has zip to do with quality. I want to nab a piece of premium hog before the stuff becomes unavailable or too expensive for the likes of me to afford. I'm not thinking in terms of resale - I hate selling gits (even held onto a Taylor for over a year 'cause I hate the selling experience so much ). It's kind of a "farewell to mahogany" purchase, so I'm willing to throw for some bling I would under other circumstances skip entirely.
Members kwakatak Posted January 13, 2007 Members Posted January 13, 2007 If you're looking for a hog L-03 just post in the Larrivee forum's "Wanted to Buy/Wanted to Trade" section. There have been a couple come and go in recent weeks.

I played a bunch of ES-335s and H-535s and this girl is top of the heap tonally.
