Members jsgates Posted January 20, 2007 Members Posted January 20, 2007 This is something I am very nervous about! Ever since the strap broke and the headstock of my Exotica QSE slammed into the floor, I am VERY selective about guitar straps. I have a Planet Waves all-leather strap that I use with my Ovation & it works great. However, I can't get the hole in the strap to go over the wide Taylor Expression System jack that doubles as a strap button on my 410 E LTD. Any suggestions on straps for this thing? I want it secure! That Planet Waves strap was received as a gift, and I'm not really in the market to pay $60+ for a strap. Any suggesions or info appreciated. What do you other guys with the Taylor ES on your guitars use strap-wise?
Members recordingtrack1 Posted January 20, 2007 Members Posted January 20, 2007 Yeah, that big old end button on the Taylor ES is a pain. I have a Taylor strap myself and I have finally got it worked out to fit pretty well. It took a while. Straplock are the only suggestion I have. RT

Members jsgates Posted January 21, 2007 Author Members Posted January 21, 2007 Thanks for the info. I figured those Taylor straps sold for more. I will check them out. Also, a dumb question here. Leather guitar straps have the wide portion of the strap and then the very narrow portion. I've tried both ways. Which end of the strap is SUPPOSED to go on which strap button?
Members bohoo2u Posted January 21, 2007 Members Posted January 21, 2007 The fat part is supposed to go in front I think. At least thats how I do it

How do you like the walnut Taylor? I've been wanting to play one of those...
Members brahmz118 Posted January 21, 2007 Members Posted January 21, 2007 I think the wide part is supposed to be in front, so that people in front of you can see any designs on it. I have similar strap problems with my RainSong's endpin jack. On another board someone recommended the Tapastring Strap Keeper though I haven't tried one yet.
Members recordingtrack1 Posted January 21, 2007 Members Posted January 21, 2007 You could do like we used to do before straplocks became popular. Use a big old safety pin. I'm joking, of course, but we used to do it for real. We'd just fork it between the end pin cap and the strap and clip it shut. Works like a charm, looks really stupid. Started doing it after I saw one of my buddies break the headstock off of a Les Paul Custom. RT1:)
Members jsgates Posted January 21, 2007 Author Members Posted January 21, 2007 The walnut gives the guitar great tone. I know it varies from guitar to guitar, but the LTD sounds WAY better than the damaged 410 I returned to Elderly. Also, I've always put sthe wide part of the strap at the front myself, but it seemed like it was too wide for the location of the front strap button on the Taylor.
Members Greymuzzle Posted January 22, 2007 Members Posted January 22, 2007 Safety Pins? Really! Did none of the stores round you sell Grolsch when you were growing up? The rubber sealing rings from the ceramic tops on the old style metal clip Grolsch bottles are surely the de facto standard for impovised strap locks. No? Let's hear if you know better...
Members DeepEnd Posted January 22, 2007 Members Posted January 22, 2007 You can go to a place that does shoe and leather repair (belts, purses, etc.) and have them enlarge the hole. Shouldn't cost more than a couple of bucks and they'll probably do it while you wait. Look in the phone book under "Shoe Repair."

Eventually it will loosen up and slip over the jack on the back of the guitar more easily. I have no idea why Taylor made that freakin thing so big though. -Brad
