Members knockwood Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 I need to dump everything, start from scratch. Or maybe I'm just bored. Not really sure.
Members Cldplytkmn Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 buy a new one... A) it'll take all of your attention for a while... B) after your honeymoon with the new one, you'll go back to the older ones with a new appreciation. C) i can't think of a negative outcome of buying a new guitar.
Members Cripes Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 Talk about a left hook. Knock, I did exactly that about 6 weeks ago. Everything went - GONE. Sold 2 Larrivees and a Martin. Was it hard? It certainly wasn't the easiest thing I've ever done but it needed to happen. I ended up with this Breedlove - which I am stoked about - a Seagull (something-or-other) that sounds great and has the ability of being strummed/flatpicked, and a Squier/Tele. Soooo...I know exactly what you're going thru.

Members entz72 Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 you should be grateful for what you do have. you might not have the greatest guitars but i am positive they are better then mine. my equip.... a 1960s-70s GEM sg knock off. a carlo rabli (spelling) nylon string guitar, that was free with my amp i got alittle while back. most of the time i just play my electric unplug becuase i would rather be playing a steel string acoustic. money is tight so not going to happen

Soooo...I know exactly what you're going thru. Thanks, man. Someone started a thread not too long ago about "settling." I'm realizing more and more that every git I own is basically a "settlement" guitar. They're good instruments; it's just that every one of them falls short of the total package for me in some respect or another. So as of today I've made a wee pact with myself: No more settling. This is not a new thing for me, really. I've always tended to get slate-cleaning urges every few years. Before I was married, if you'd walked into my apartment you'd never have found a shred of evidence that I'd been on this earth more than three or four years (except maybe for some stuff in my refrigerator).
Members jerime Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 I have the same problem, only I have a hard time getting rid of guitars.

I am grateful for what I have and I am far too familiar with tight money. But... My entire life is essentially a massive frustrating compromise. I don't want to get too crazy-personal here, so I'll just say that I am basically a miserable loser of a human being, and leave it at that. The instrument, though, no matter how bad I suck, is the one happy constant in my asinine life. I don't want to stain it with the misery of practicality if I don't have to. I think there have been times, here and there, when I haven't had to (I'm basically {censored} broke, but with a few yearly bright spots), but I've made poor choices. Gonna erase those and start again, all I'm saying.
Members kwakatak Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 I feel as if I'm in the exact opposite situation. My house is threatening to burst at the seams and with another son on the way the thought of moving from a house that we both love has reared its ugly head. Because of this we're in the midst of a "mad shuffle" that affects - but is not limited to - my guitar storage considerations. It pains me that I'm going to have to give up my home studio/home office - aka "the guest room" - so that the baby will have his own room but it's gotta be done. So this weekend we took a few hours to weed out some of the clutter and the stuff I found was amazing. The trash man is gonna hate my guts in the coming weeks. Now regarding my guitars, not a one is going anywhere and my dream of having a guitar in every room is soon to be realized - but not on the terms that I'd originally envisioned.

I lost my guitar room almost 7 years ago when my son was born. I can feel your pain.

Before I got married, I did that. I even gave things away. They "tied me to the earth." Now I wish I had that mandolin and all those poems I wrote. They are gone. Oh...and that 67 Chevelle.....

Where do you play nowadays? Wasn't it in the dining room or something? I hope you don't get kicked out of there too!

I hope you don't get kicked out of there too! Yeah, our dining room is right off the living room. Sometimes I play in the basement. I am considering recording my song for the HCAG CD in the basement. In the warm months I play in the garage or out on the patio. The basement is finished, but it needs to be updated. It was finished by the previous homeowners in the 1970's. It's divided up 5 areas: living room, dining room, storage room, laundry room and bathroom. We let the kids play down there most of the time. We are talking about remodeling the basement and adding a 300 - 400 square foot addition to the rear of the house sometime in the future. Our house is 1200 square feet with a 1200 square foot basement.

I like the idea of starting over, of "exciting" yourself. Go ahead make "your" day. Sorry for the "editing".....
Members Hudman Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 You fellers shoulda thought about maybe getting cats instead... Cats are too easy to potty train and they would never put you in old folks home like your kids will (cats like their owners too much to do that).
Members kwakatak Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 You fellers shoulda thought about maybe getting cats instead... [/quote I already have one, knock.
Members Cripes Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 I tried cats. They just didn't fill-the-bill where my wife was concerned. I got her all trained up in the things that were fun - scuba diving, sailing and such - that would be the great life of a foot-loose untethered jet-setting dynamic marriage - but the ticking of her clockworks was too much to bear. We did manage 8 years of freedom and became rather shade-tree traveled. And, now that we're past the desire to continue being spontaneously crazy and combustible the kids actually put a whole new slant on fun. They really are more fun than they are a handful. If you'd have asked me that 20 years ago I'd have a different take on it.
Members kwakatak Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 OT: Damn, they put banner ads up in that blank space. Time to edit my Norton prefs!
Members Dan Hall Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 So as of today I've made a wee pact with myself: No more settling. I'm there now too. The thing with me too is that I live on a boat and I just don't have the room for a lot of stuff. I'm gonna be a two guitar guy and I don't want any more settling in that department. OTOH; I just missed a '64 ES-345 player with ES-335 wiring, a stoptail, and (yes!) pafs for $2500. I ended up with a Heritage H-535 because it really is the closest you can get to a pre '65 ES-335 tone wise. If another Gibbo like that one comes up the Heritage rolls. So my acoustic is going to make me happy or I ain't gonna keep it. Do it.
