Members vibratingstring Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 I see Taylor 214 guitars with and without the reinforcing back strip along the joint of the two halves of the back. I had a Gibson that split along that joint and it had NO reinforcing strip. Anyone have any experience with Taylor backs having problems or know when and why they changed the design? Thanks,Larry
Members guit30 Posted January 29, 2007 Members Posted January 29, 2007 never heard of a problem, love to have a 214

Really? My 314 has the reinforcement, I can't see why they would leave it off. I've never heard of a problem, but with Taylor's stellar warranty I also wouldn't worry about it. Members vibratingstring Posted February 3, 2007 Author Members Posted February 3, 2007 Thanks for your feedback. I have moved on and am widening my scope a bit. I have a Martin HD28 and LOVE it, but I want a 000 or OM size finger picker to play with. The Taylors that I tried were nice playing. Taylor has a nice web site too, with videos of the making of the guitars. I was looking on eBay and found that some 214s have that back reinforment strip and some don't. I did have trouble with a Gibson LG0 that had no re-enforment strip. The back split open. Just thinking out loud, I guess. Larry(vibratingstring)
Members bjorn-fjord Posted February 3, 2007 Members Posted February 3, 2007 I haven't been paying attention lately, but when I worked for Larrivee none of the guitars had back reinforcement strips. And the backs were joined with CA glue!
