Members gthom Posted February 14, 2007 Members Posted February 14, 2007 Quick question...I have a Yamaha fg400a that I got back in 1988, when I first started playing guitar. I mostly played electric and usually only used the acoustic when I was just screwing around while watching tv or something. Anyway, the last year or two I've started getting back into guitar, especially playing fingerstyle acoustic. I'd always assumed the fg400a was a laminate top, because I think it's a pretty low-end, intro level guitar. But one of the teachers at the Old Town School here in Chicago said that he thought mine was from back when Yamaha "still made those with solid tops." I know nothing about guitar construction and even less about wood, so I wouldn't even know how to tell...anyone here have any ideas?
