So far for me it's been 4 years between each new guitar.... with usually an amp squeezed in the middle. So, 2 years on average, I guess.

Here are the details. Guess when I had money, and when I didn't have any...

1984: first guitar: steel string => broken in 88

1988: first electric (Strat) => sold in 2004 to pay taxes

1989: first Amp (tube) => broken in 1999 (no funds to repair)

1994: Nylon string guitar

2000: Semi hollow guitar

2000: new tube amp => sold in 2004 to pay taxes

2000: new ss practice amp

2006: gypsy jazz guitar

Twenty years ago I went through guitars/gear every few months; depending on the amount of gigs and rates at pawn shops. :D I was also always interested in trying to upgrade since I was restricted to the $250-$600 price range; and even those purchases required some time in lay-a-way.

Now I'm pretty happy with what I have. I'm at a point in my life where I try to separate wants from needs since I have a young son and another one on the way.

In recent past about every 4 to 6 months I've convinced

myself, I'm close to having the lineup of git's I want/need.

I'll be for certain in about another 26 hours give or take. :)

I don't permanently own any gear. I am merely a conduit through which it flows.

REAL good answer. I make a pretty poor conduit, but your statement is the only true one. I purchased two in the last month, one of which I told my son, "When Daddy's gone this here is the guitar you want". (It's not the most expensive of the lot either).

It's been four years since my last guitar, but I'm trying to resist the urge to pull the trigger on a nice little Reverend I played last weekend. As far as other gear goes...shoot...seems like I pick up that stuff all the time.

Interesting. That's exactly the way I look at my old Porsche. I have a responsibility to enjoy it, make sure it looks good when I take it out, and to keep it in the best possible condition for the next owner.

it really depends on how much time i prick around on ebay or visit my favorite music store... i have bought four so far this year and have gone from one guitar and a practice amp two years ago to having a full pa, drums, bass rig, 20 some guitars, lights, and a half dozen guitar amps... i really have a problem with this and need some kind of 12 step program:cry: ...i need to quit buying {censored} but {censored} it.. i'm no quitter:thu:

Well, I haven't bought a guitar for over 25 years. Then my wife gave me one and that should have been that.

Then I started building them. Now I can't pass the tool section of the hardware store without fondling the routers and checking the clamps. But I still haven't bought one in over 25 years.

Nuthin' special. We're certainly not talking about an old 550 or 904 or anything like that. Heck, not even a 911 for that matter. It's a 17 year old 944S2 that the previous owner kept in shockingly original condition, and it just seems criminal for me not to do the same. :thu:

Nice ride and in truely beautiful condition. When I graduated in 1969 (and bought my Yamaha) I almost bought a 912, but I was racing boats back then and needed a tow car. So I bought a Z-28 Camero which I would give a lot to still own, even tho you can't buy gas for 'em any more.

But I'm still a motorhead and Momma lets me keep my toys (I tell her it is part of my IRA)

Ooooooooo! I love the 2002! And is that a Morgan 4/4 back there? Very, very cool. You know, back in my college days we used to say that the only things that really mattered were girls, cars, and guitars -- and not necessarily in that order (well, not all the time, anyway).

That's a beautiful collection. Thanks for sharing.
