Winter is like monsoon season here in L.A. - We have a break in the rain and humidity just dropped from 60 to 52 %. My guitars are drinking it in.

So, how's Cincinnatti these days? :p

Winter in LA... I remember that as the season in which the the leaves almost drop from the trees out of sheer exhaustion, but many of them don't have the energy left to let go.

Trees? Oh yeah, it's those bushy things they bring onto the set every now and then. You know, I heard that they actually make guitars out of those things. :)

"... took all the trees, put 'em in a tree museum

charged the people a dollar and half just to see 'em

paved paradise and put up a parking lot...."

I love winter too. Guitars are all dry, lets go skiing

I just spent about 45 minutes shoveling 6" of snow and chipping about 1/2" of ice underneath it off my driveway. My wife stayed home from work (but is working virtually via VPN) because the ice storm closed the trolley that she takes to work. I was stuck home yesterday because we got 5" of snow and she took the car with AWD to go to work. Our other car is terrible in the snow so I don't even think about putting my kid in it when weather is this bad.

Basically... what he said. With more snow.

Here on the South Side of Chicago we get all the lake-effect snow and it can be a beast. Terrible for driving. These past two days I've been very glad to have a truck with AWD.

10" of snow here in Trenton, MI. The snow drifts are the bad part. It took me an hour after I got home from work to dig my Escort out of a snow drift in my driveway. I took my wife's Escape to work because the kids didn't have school.

Winter can kiss my ass. :thu:

My car says it's 72 degrees. Too warm to keep the top up.
:D

Shutting up now.

Let's see now -- snow, earthquakes, snow, earthquakes: I'll take my 1 foot of snow.:p

We had over 6 inches here in Illinois, perhaps more downstate. Fact of the matter is, I realized it in shovelling the driveway, that, heck, I LOVE winter. . . it may be cold outside, but you know you'll always warm up, have hot soup or hot chocolate or just coffee. . . and the nice brisk air in your lungs is great.

It's a kind of affirmation of life, knowing life goes on, even through the cold and storm, and you yourself making it through, too.

In Fredonia New York , were half way between Buffalo NY and Erie PA - we had about a foot and a half snow fall just today , with over 3 feet of snow on the ground - we must be the only school system around with school today ( thank God ) about 2 hours after i snow blew the driveway , you couldnt tell it was ever done - hope its alot warmer where you are ! one good thing , im sure getting in alot of playing - you would have to be stupid to go out for anything but an emergency !

I love winter also. I love Ohio. 4 well defined seasons - does a soul good! Humidity got as low a 38% but in case never below 42% and it was only a couple days - on it's way back up now.

My son and I had fun scraping the inch of ice off the driveway today.

Put brats on the grill and laughed in spite of the frigid weather.

Bring it on.

Sorry people. I do not share any of your emotional attachments to cold weather and the added inconveniences it brings. I just got back from a four day visit to a Chicago northwest burb and I wasn't impressed at all. At the end of each day I found myself tired; tired from shivering and the dryness. The dryness, especially, in the way it affects the eyes is particularly bothersome. Cover up really well and still suffer the cutting wind entering around my headgear and collar. Every morning and evening during my stay involved about a 200 yard trek to and from a parking lot. One way was into the wind so I had to walk backwards. Then, there was that storm that made driving completely nuts. I'm no stranger to the winter conditions, having spent much of my life in it anywhere from Kokomo, Indiana to Shimya, Aleutian Islands. So, I will be ever-so-generous and leave it all for you to enjoy.

Last I heard, the Syracuse, NY area had 116" of snow, so we all better keep quiet...even us Coloradans. And Kwak, only 6" of snow in Western PA??? Ha! It is to laugh!

Don't get me wrong - 6" is nothing. It's the ice and sub-zero temperatures that piss me off.

Oh - and the fact that I have to clean the calcification from tap water off my humidifier after every use. My wife scoffed at the cost of a gallon of distilled water but I'm thinking of buying several jugs of it anyway. In order to clean the crust off the heating element of my humidifier I have to use this stuff that costs $6 a bottle. One cleaning uses half the bottle and I have to clean it every day so you do the math - it may be cheaper to just bite the bullet and buy the distilled water. I certainly hate messing with chemicals anyway.

We have a baby grand piano with a small humidifier strapped to the underside. When we fill it, we add a cap full of Dampp-Chaser Humidifier Treatment to prevent mineral buildup. Haven't cleaned it in 10 years.

Believe it or not I love winter here. I prefer 10 degrees to 95 any day. I hate the heat! Plus I'm English/Irish/German so the sun is no friend to my pasty white ass. I get some reprieve from it in the winter.

...I didn't like getting on my roof to remove ice from my satellite dish today though.

I've lived in the Cincinnati area for damn near 50 years, minus the 4 in Columbus at OSU. Winter still sucks! I'm tired of tracking salt and crud into the house and brushing against my car and getting filthy. I'm tired of dry eyes and cracking fingers. My vacations are always some place sunny and warm; preferrably the Carribean or the Keys. I wish I were in the Keys right now, "strumming my six string on my front porch swing..."
