I looking at the Breedlove Atlas series, the Epiphone Masterbilts, and the Guild GADs, but I haven't ruled out a lower-end Larrivee or Taylor. I bought my Tak back in 1997 and I can't believe how much better the selection is today for decent guitars that cost less than $1000.00. I'm gonna take my time and play everything I can get my hands on.

Congrats on winning the bet. I guess I'm lucky, my wife has bought me 2 of the 4 guitars I own, and talked me into buying one of the other two.

 

Anyway, as for what guitar...I agree that you should go out and play all the different ones you are interested in. One of them will speak to you.

 

I can vouch for the Breedloves. I love my 12 string and hope to add a 6 string sometime in the future.
