Strap advice

Hi

This may seem like a silly question but ... Is there a specific or preferred way that i should tie my strap at the headstock end (behind the nut) if I don't have a neck strap button?

Also, does anyone ever use straplocks on their acoustics?

Don't use straplocks but both my main guitars (6- and 12-string) have a second strap button installed, both by the dealer. It's cheap and simple. You can probably do it yourself but any decent shop can do it for you at minimal cost. My Alvarez beater lacks a second strap button but I simply wrapped the ends of the strap cord around the headstock a couple of times and tied a square knot.

I usually have a strap button professionally installed at, or near, the heel of the neck at a cost of about $5. I don't like the "cowboy" strap at the end of the neck. ymmv.

I usually just tie it tight enough so it doesn't fall off but that I can get it undone if I need to. No specific knots here.

For the record, its possible to run into some structure issues putting in a neck strap button yourself so be careful if you're considering doing that.

I use the planet waves quick release as well...I don't like the idea of drilling extra screws into the guitar, regardless of where they are (heel cap, heel block, etc). I also find they hang funny when attached there and could get in the way of an otherwise smooth neck. If you ever want to change the location of them, you need to fill the hole and live with the blemish. (I still regret selling that Yamaha DW-4SC, even with the crappy repair.)

Mine just have granny knots....I found it handy to leave it tied, but my only problem was it can get pinned under the neck if you aren't careful when putting it in its case. I put a small mark on the back of a 12 string neck near the nut by not paying attention.
