Members radonballoon Posted February 23, 2007 Members Posted February 23, 2007 any tips on the best/easiest way to remove old glue from a body? i have an old harmony i'm fixing up that's bridge was pulling away from the body. i managed to get it off without harming the wood but there's some old, dried glue in some spots.

Members radonballoon Posted February 23, 2007 Author Members Posted February 23, 2007 thanks. i can't tell from the pics, but mine looks to be a somewhat 'thincker' residue. could i use a razor blade opposed to the scraper there?
Members guitarcapo Posted February 23, 2007 Members Posted February 23, 2007 Depends on the type of glue. If it's aliphatic resin glue (Elmers Carpenter Glue or Titebond) or hide glue (if it's the original Harmony glue) I would recommend softening it with water for a few hours and scraping it off. If it's epoxy or cyano acrylate (a bad thing that some amature did) your only hope is to sand it off.
Members radonballoon Posted February 23, 2007 Author Members Posted February 23, 2007 it's a late 60's harmony. it appears to be original and looks like an amber colored wood glue.
Members Freeman Keller Posted February 23, 2007 Members Posted February 23, 2007 how did you get it off in the first place? If you used heat (and steam) a little more should do the trick. Otherwise, scrape and sand. I have used a box cutter blade as a scraper. Put masking tape around the area to protect the top.
