Members rjoxyz Posted February 28, 2007 Members Posted February 28, 2007 My wife and I are planning our first trip to Nashville this Spring. Other than Gruhn's, are there any "must see" stores. I am thinking of picking up a Masterbilt while there, so any decent Epiphone dealers would be appreciated as well. This GAS thing is just relentless. Thanks in advance.
Members Tele_32 Posted February 28, 2007 Members Posted February 28, 2007 If you happen to be in the Opry Mills Mall check out the Gibson showcase store there. Lots of stuff and all of it that i have played has been top quality. Don't expect to buy anything there though, because there prices tend to sway on the high side.

My mother got married and moved to Louisville Kentucky a few months ago. They are building a log home on 20 acres of land 60 miles from Nashville. The place should be finished in early spring. Thay are planning to live there full-time in 3 years. I plan to visit Nashville often over the next few years. Make sure you tell us about it when you get back.

Don't be disappointed if it goes something like: "Wife refused to let me go into anymore guitar stores after my fainting spell and full-blown seizure at Gruhn's."

My "step dad" is a guitar player too. I picture my mom and wife running around shopping while he and I drool in the guitar shops.
Members steve_man Posted March 2, 2007 Members Posted March 2, 2007 There's some really great "old-school" shops on Music Row. Gruhn's was a pretty sweet place. They had some really nice vintage models, and some killer acoustics. However, the prices were seriously on the steep side. By far, the sweetest shop in Nashville is the Gibson Showcase Store in the Opry Mills Mall. Great customer service, and every Gibson/Epiphone/GHS model you could ever want to play. Private sound-proof rooms are also really nice. They seemed very willing to haggle over price. I found a custom-shop Epi Les Paul that I fell in love with. If I had a way to get it home without taking it on a plane, I would have bought it. I ended up ordering it from the Friend when I got home, as they had a limited number of them. Even if you're not a big Gibson fan, this is a great guitar shop! Plus, I think you can actually take a tour of the Gibson factory in Nashville. I didn't have time to make it out there, but I've heard it's a really cool place to visit.

Members rjoxyz Posted March 2, 2007 Author Members Posted March 2, 2007 Now I have to figure out how to convince my wife, my partner and his wife, that this trip is really all about me and my need to visit every guitar shop in a 50 mile radius. Anyone know if GAS is communicable to non-guitarists? Does it require exchange of body fluids?

Anyone know if GAS is communicable to non-guitarists? Does it require exchange of body fluids? Good luck. Most likely, they will be bored after the first 15 minutes in the first (and probably last) guitar shop you enter.
Members geddyentwistle Posted March 2, 2007 Members Posted March 2, 2007 since you have other to entertain, go to Artisan guitars and the Gibson store, which are in "The Factory at Franklin" and "Opry Mills Mall" respectively. Those store are both within those shopping centers, where the rest of your group can look and shop as you visit the guitar stores.
Members guitarcapo Posted March 2, 2007 Members Posted March 2, 2007 Gruhn's is a nice store and all but not very many good deals for a place that's been established so long that their overhead is probably small. They didn't really work with me at all on my trade in. I got a much better deal at a place in Louisville, KY when I was on the road. Guitar Emporium I think it was called. It's nice to go there and look at all the vintage stuff, but it was more like a museum than a place you could deal with in my opinion.
