Members heymelbs Posted February 8, 2007 Members Posted February 8, 2007 Any thoughts about the Taylor T5? If there are other threads that cover this, point me there too.
Members JasmineTea Posted February 8, 2007 Members Posted February 8, 2007 The T5 has gotten some heavy flak around here, I think mainly because it's a swiss army knife kind of a thing. But if the search function is working you should be able to find some T5 bashing...I mean threads.

Members heymelbs Posted February 9, 2007 Author Members Posted February 9, 2007 I tried one out at a guitar store, and was very disappointed with how it sounded from an acoustic perspective. I actually thought the Michael Kelly hybrid sounded more acoustic amplified than the T5. It sounds like the swiss army knife of guitars still hasn't been invented yet, or am I wrong?
Members whit townsend Posted February 9, 2007 Members Posted February 9, 2007 As an acoustic-elec better than the average, but not as good as say a nice All wood Taylor. As an electric-suprise, I really like em. Lots of very usable tones.I would buy one if they wernt so expensive. Put 10s on it at use it mostly like a semi solid electric.A swiss/army knife, but a high quality one. A good "do it all " stage guitar.
Members marauder6666 Posted February 9, 2007 Members Posted February 9, 2007 I had one and found I was only using the tele-like setting, so I bought the real thing and sold it. In terms of build quality, fit and finish, playability, it couldnt be faulted. It was just a lot of money lying around pretending to be a telecaster all the time.
Members vangkm Posted February 9, 2007 Members Posted February 9, 2007 Try a Crafter SA, a Korean copy of the T5. Got mine for about $500 new with HSC. Definitely not close in build quality, but semi close in sound. Search Ebay.
Members Jake7 Posted February 9, 2007 Members Posted February 9, 2007 I bought one when they first came out, and I was doing alot of country and rock music in my then bands set....it seemed like the ideal tool for me, as I run magnetic and undersaddle peizos on seperate outputs in my acoustics, and send the magnet off to a fender twin, and the piezo to the PA. I t really didn't suit my purpose...plus it sounded lame unplugged....I have an old ovation that is more gratifying. I sold mine and lost a bunch of money....it was a lovely build, very nice quality, but soundwise I can't think who would find it useful I'm afraid.....seems to do a mediocre job of all the things it's meant to excell at.
Members Stratosteam Posted February 9, 2007 Members Posted February 9, 2007 I got my T5 S when they first came out and I still love it. Does it sound as acoustic as my 414CE, or just like my Strats, Tele, or Les Paul? No it doesn't, but I like all of the sounds I do get, and find it is the guitar I reach for when doing my home recordings.
Members funkymonk77 Posted February 10, 2007 Members Posted February 10, 2007 great guitar if its setup right.it came with electric strings on it, so i slapped some martin sp's on it, cut back the treble, and now i have a jazz box....dont think they mentioned that in the dvd, theyre so intent on markeing it as an electric acoustic hybrid nobody thought to play it like a d'aquisto
Members lmintier Posted March 6, 2007 Members Posted March 6, 2007 I was wondering if anyone here has any Taylor Magazine advertisements that they could send to me, I am comparing the Taylor advertisements to Martin advertisements and Gibson advertisements. if so, please email them to me at Luckyduck_98@hotmail.com i would really apprieciate it, also, any comments on the T5 would be greatly apprieiated.Thanx,L
