Members bbarkow Posted March 10, 2007 Members Posted March 10, 2007 I did my AJ-500RE this week and I'm very pleased with the results. It didn't come out looking like a super-glossy sprayed poly finish, but more like a nicely aged nitro lacquer. It came out really nice. I did, however, find out one reason that they put a satin finish on these guitars. I didn't notice any flaws in the rosewood to speak of, but I found numerous flaws in the top. There are a few dings and handling marks that would have had to be sanded out first if they were going to put a gloss finish on the guitar. They didn't show up with the satin, but they show up now. I'm not upset or disappointed. I don't get sentimentally attached to objects, and I still think it's going to be a great guitar once it plays in a bit. But if you decide to polish your Masterbilt, make sure it's not going to bother you to find some flaws in the spruce. Just my 2c.

Members T0MCAT Posted March 11, 2007 Members Posted March 11, 2007 It seems I saw somwhere online, that Epiphone is going to put out a gloss top masterbilt. I's also love to see a pic of your polished Epi. I really prefer a gloss finish over the satin.
