Members missedmyexit Posted March 12, 2007 Members Posted March 12, 2007 Hey, Finally finished recording a song with my new Martin Aura. Let me know what you guys/gals think. I recorded this with two guitar tracks one with the Fishman Full on (no Aura Modeling) one with full Aura modeling. I panned each right and left (Right with Aura Modeling). Hoping to create the impression of two different guitars playing from different sides. Left me know what you think. http://myspace.com/missedmyext for the people who can't get to myspace because your employeers expect you to work. http://missedmyexit.com/songs/Again.mp3 UPDATE: After listening myself through headphones it seems like my panning didn't make it through the compression. Maybe I'll upload the wave file if you guys are interested in hearing the Aura "Modeled Sound" vs the straight sound of the pickup system.
Members valleyguy Posted March 12, 2007 Members Posted March 12, 2007 The guitar sounds great. However, I did not get the impression of two guitars playing. Did you actually play the part twice and record two distinct tracks?

You should, and I didn't check to see if MP3 compression squashed it, here a different guitar panned left and right.
Members LiveMusic Posted March 12, 2007 Members Posted March 12, 2007 I listened through headphones and I did not hear two guitar parts. But it sounds good. So, this is no mic'ing of the guitar? Done 'eletrified' through a Fishman Aura thingy? If so, it does sound natural, I'll admit. What is the advantage of the Aura system for recording purposes? Why not just mic the guitar? Is your guitar a Martin?

The advantage, to me at least, is not having to screw with a mic at all. I don't have to worry about background noise or MIC position. That was recorded straight into the board of my Tascam DP-01 8 track recorder. It also has 6 distinct recorded "Models" that are made from the sound of my guitar MICed in the studio from different positions so there are different "Miced" sounds I can get out of it. Plus you can blend between stock pickup sound and any of the models. I haven't played with it enough to find all the sounds yet but for ease of use both live and recording it's pretty sweet.
