hey guys, im in the market for a new acoustic, but i dont have that much money to spend. I have a few I've been eyein up, but judging by my previous guitar, i dont have the best taste in these kinda things. Could you guys tell me what you think of these guitars?

I could also use any other suggestions in the $300-400 range. Any help would be great

so anyway, here's are some guitars...

first off, i was looking at something in the $200 range. this ibanez artwood caught my eye. it looked like a real deal, it's gotta solid spruce top and a beautiful tree of life inlay

After being impressed by the aw40 after playin it a few days ago, i started to look at some other artwoods online. these two electric-acoustics caught my eye. to be honest, i dont really need an electric, but i guess it might be useful later on, and im not gonna lie, i like the cutaway

and

IAW35RECE.jpg

can anybody familiar with acoustic pickups tell me which one of these two would be better? one uses a SRTn, while the other uses a fishman's

Then i thought, if im gonna spend $350, why not go $400 and try the taylor big baby. but then again, i was originally looking for something in like the $200-$300 range

still, im considering $400 as the most im willing to spend at this point.

do any of you guys have other suggestions? i hear there are a lot of nice takamines and epiphones, but i cant say im really familiar with any of them. could you guys help a guy out? :D

Something wrong with your link. The picture is of an ArtWood, but the link goes to a listing for a Sage - which is Ibanez' new entry level series. NOT a solid top, and certainly not at the level of an ArtWood.

I've been looking at some guitars in this price range lately. What do you like in terms of sound? .

I like cedar because it is warm and melow. I also need some good low end. For those specs, I liked the Takamine G330, I think that was the model, it is a cedar toped dread, no electronics, satin finish; kind of a plain jane. The thing sounded really good, and played nice. It was loud, warm, and had a lot of base. It sold for 300 bucks.

If you need electronics, I think Takamines are supposed to be quite good. I played a 400-500 cut away dred that sounded pretty good unplugged.

I guess you need to clarify what sound you like mainly. Also do you need electronics, and or a cutaway.

As it happens, I just spend an hour or two yesterday playing accoustics in that price range at GC. We played a few Ibanez models (although I don't think any of them were artwoods), along with Parkwood, Takamine, Epiphone, and a Squier Stratocoustic.

I wasn't too crazy about the Ibanez guitars. Their tuners, in particular, seemed cheap and unstable. Personally, I like the Takamines in that 200-300 dollar price point the best, followed by the Epiphones. The Epiphones, if I remember correctly, had solid spruce tops and the onboard preamps sounded decent through a little accoustic amp. I will say that I was surprised by the overall high quality of most entry-level accoustics...things have changed since I started playing in 92! (And a lot more since the 60's and 70's!)

I have yet to play any of them. I like the IAC35 the best based on the looks and the cedar top. I also prefer the grand auditorium body size over the dread bodies on the other two guitars.

$349 is an awesome price for a solid top guitar with built in electronics. I was told that Ibanez acoustic guitars are built by Cort. Cort makes some awesome guitars for the money.

I would get this one:

I played a couple of Parkwoods at Guitar center and was very impressed with the build quality. I believe that Parkwood is also owned by Cort. I would like to own one myself, but I already have too many guitars. My next will have to be an electric as the Strat is not outnumbered 5 to 1! Check out Parkwood, Seagull & Yamaha as well.

I like Ibanez guitars, especially the ArtWood series. I own an AW120 http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Ibanez-AW120-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=519466 and I love it. They're dynamite guitars that are seriously underrated. Since my AW120 has Grover tuners, I can't comment on bloolight's remark concerning cheap tuners. Yes, Parkwoods are nice guitars. They're made by Cort which also makes the Ibanez ArtWood line and Carvin Cobalt acoustics. http://www.carvin.com/products/group.php?CID=CBNE. In your price range, I'd get a straight acoustic and not worry about a cutaway. Spend your money on the guitar, not the "gee whiz" stuff. You can always add a pickup later if you decide you really need one.

I had two Ibanez acoustics - actually wish I had not sold one of then now. But It would have been my beater .... the camp site guitar.

In my current quiver is a Cort Earth 200GC - lacking a bit in the low end - but is not a dread either. It is a far better built guitar then the Ibanez - and I will not let it go camping with me!

as far as on board electronics, Ibanez did have Fishman stuff but I think they have cheapened down now. And unless you have skills that demand upper registers on the neck I would not do a cutoff/nipped (no offense folks).

after reading your posts, I'll definitely try some parkwoods next time in a music store. ill also wait it out until those new artwoods come in so i can try em out. i wont mind waiting because i guess im gonna need around a month of saving up to do before i can afford this new guitar :S

youre right, i wont let a cutaway or pickup affect my decision

i just hope they have some cheaper parkwoods at the store than on musiciansfriend.com.

and, what do you guys think of the big baby?

Bought a Taylor Big Baby for my little sister around Christmas. Very nice guitar and great sound. It is 3/4 scale dread which is what she needed (she has small hands). I have a Taylor 410 E LTD, but I like to play the Big Baby somtimes. Nice guitar! However, I think you'd be happier with a Parkwood or Artwood. Guitar Center has some cheaper Parkwoods than what is on Musicians friend. They have a much larger line than Musician's friend sales. Check out the Parkwood website for some more info. Just Google Parkwood Guitars.
