Anyone added an Electric guitar Pickup on his acoustic?

I have a couple of acoustics and I want an electric but to be honest I have a real neighbor problem (on rent) and I don't want to buy an electric without being able to enjoy it. So for the times when I need to record some electric tunes I either have to borrow a guitar from a friend or use a lot of crappy software like revalver to simulate an electric tone.

So I've gotten to a point where I think I should add a humbucker in the soundhole of my Epiphone to capture the sound this way and run it through the preamp. Has anyone done it? And what do you think that are the restrictions?

I've done it, and it never sounded too great. A typical electric guitar pickup rigged into an acoustic soundhole will sound a little bit like and electric and just a little bit like an acoustic. It won't have the sustain of an electric though and the strings will be unbalanced. Generally you'll get the sound of a really crappy electric guitar and a really crappy acoustic guitar mixed together.

That said, you might be able to find a combination that works for you. Sometimes an unorthodox, never-heard-before-sound can be just what you're after.
