Members drnihili Posted March 19, 2007 Members Posted March 19, 2007 Hair? That would be out of the question for me.....
Members Freeman Keller Posted March 19, 2007 Members Posted March 19, 2007 Knowing Dan, it has to involve a hole in the water. Or was it a scooter like Smatel says (my wife bought me mine).
Members Queequeg Posted March 19, 2007 Members Posted March 19, 2007 yep. I think Mr Hall wants a Hog.BTW welcome back from vacation Freeman. Your wife bought you a motorcycle, too? AND the Taylor???She got a sister?
Members DonK Posted March 19, 2007 Members Posted March 19, 2007 Gotta be a Hog (as in Harley, not maHOGany).
Members Hudman Posted March 19, 2007 Members Posted March 19, 2007 The "Harley bug" can bite pretty hard. It hit me in my early 30's. I never drove anything bigger than a dirt bike up to that point. I bought a used Harley from my father in law. I owned it for 4 years. Traffic is pretty heavy where I live. I never felt comfortable driving back and forth to work on my Harley. It's all "city driving" (21 stop lights, no freeway, lot's of bad drivers, etc). That left me with evening and weekend riding. I rode it less and less as my kids got older. I made the decision to sell it 2 years ago. I thought I would reget it. I was wrong. I don't miss it at all. I guess I never got comfortable with riding.....

AND the Taylor???She got a sister? Thanks. Yes and yes. The best part of the vacation is that my wonderful wife and daughter were both along (unfortunately that cost me a new pair of skis for my daughter). We had some serious fun jamming too - a couple of gits and a lovely lady from Scotland on the djembe (sp). Her other function (which she did as well as drumming) was to keep my glass filled with single malt. I had owned bikes off and on over my life (Matchless, Triumph, a dirt bike or two) but never a Harley. A few years ago she gave me one for Christmas - just a little sporty, tho. Great for 50 mpg commuting to work http://i51.photobucket.com/albums/f387/Freeman_Keller/BMW/Toys2.jpg
Members Dan Hall Posted March 20, 2007 Author Members Posted March 20, 2007 No doubt about the Hawg thing. Midlife crisis I guess. I was hanging out this weekend with half a dozen guys that ride and you just can't help but get caught up in all the fuss. Not good. I am a pretty smallish guy but these big dudes set me down in the middle of one and lit the fuse. Really not good. I only went around the block, all right turns, but I was grinnin' like the devil when I got back. Definitely not good. Bikes were my only form of transportation through college so I'm not new to MC just new to the real thing.....Absolutely truely not a good thing.
Members Cripes Posted March 20, 2007 Members Posted March 20, 2007 I loved to ride. But, I'd get crazy and become immortal once I dropped that first gear, especially trail. Got rid of them with the birth of my first boy. Now I ride the memories.
Members Freeman Keller Posted March 20, 2007 Members Posted March 20, 2007 50 miles to the gallon makes perfect sense. And as they say, the three best things in life is wind in your face and **'s in your back.

Members Dan Hall Posted March 20, 2007 Author Members Posted March 20, 2007 Maybe like this. What do you think Freeman? Black seat and grips, a little block of foam on the rear fender, and a set of bags.
Members Freeman Keller Posted March 20, 2007 Members Posted March 20, 2007 Nice, but you're going to need a buddy seat if you want those **'s in your back. And some tasteful ghost flames on the tank. I spent a whole bunch of money to put a 21 inch front on mine like that one has. People call my Sporty a "Girly Bike" until I roll on the throttle (a buddy put about 8 grand into his FatBoy and still can't keep up). Sounding like the hook is set LOL
Members Dan Hall Posted March 21, 2007 Author Members Posted March 21, 2007 (a buddy put about 8 grand into his FatBoy and still can't keep up). Sounding like the hook is set LOLTruely puzzleing isn't it? A 74" inch shovel head is a guy's bike and a 74" sporty is a girl's bike. Go figure. I'm very early into the process here and need to ride another big bike that my feet can touch the ground on; the one this weekend was the big bike but I was tippy toes in the saddle. No good. I'm leaning lowered sporty. I'm 5'7" and about 150 pounds. The lighter the bike, the better.
Members Freeman Keller Posted March 22, 2007 Members Posted March 22, 2007 Dan, I am very happy with my Sporty - it is 80 percent commuting and riding around town, and the rest day tripping. It is not a bike I would want to ride across country to Sturges, but it fits my needs perfectly. I have lowered it slightly in the rear (changed the spring/shocks) more for looks because I'm 6 foot, and it has forward pegs - for a shorter person the normal shifter/brake location might be good. I've also got a pretty chushy seat on it - my poor old hiney likes that. Sports are a little rougher riding and certainly have more engine vibration than an Evo. Remember, the 883 and 1200 are the race engines - the Evo is a crusier. However, my friend who is considerably shorter than me is riding a Fatboy with the pedals moved back a couple of inches, so there is a lot you can do to make them fit.
