Members wizland Posted March 24, 2007 Members Posted March 24, 2007 I have been playing electric and steel string acoustic for 19 years. I took a classical lesson in college and I'm looking to do it again. However I don't have a classical guitar and I want one. I am certain that it will become my guitar of choice even if I don't get around to lessons. I'm looking to invest between $1,000 - $2,000. But I have been researching and the amount of stuff out there is overwhelming and there isn't much guidance. Any help would be appreciated. Wizland
Members Joe Vocht Posted March 24, 2007 Members Posted March 24, 2007 Well, there are a few things to consider first...if your looking for a crossover type classical with a more narrow neck ( so as to be closer to what your used to) a Cordoba thinline classical would fill the bill ...if you want , for the money , a great classical with the best woods and also a good pickup included then a Takamine 320 series with the new tube pickup would work. I f , on the other hand you just want a decent classical you can't go wrong with Aria, Yamaha, etc... There are some great Mexican classicals from Paracho, Michuacan and , of course Spain has phenominal guitars!!
Members wizland Posted March 24, 2007 Author Members Posted March 24, 2007 I actually prefer the wider neck (fat fingers). Takmine was what I have initially considered. Thanks for the input!
Members Joe Vocht Posted March 24, 2007 Members Posted March 24, 2007 another thought would be the cordoba gypsy king model flamenco thinline with the fishman mike and pickup. I have one sells for 999, got mine on e-bay for 650, its thinner and smaller built of the finest materials with a 2" wide fingerboard (like a classical) Great guitar.
Members Tony Burns Posted March 24, 2007 Members Posted March 24, 2007 I have a Lucida concerto 777 thats around 700-750 ( depending on the case you buy ) all solid wood , ebony fingerboard - theirs also a make called Pavan that also gas gotten some great reviews - I believe Prudencio Saez makes the Lucida , they are one of the bigger spainish brands , Im also fond of Amalio Burguet ( their in about the 1500-2000 range ) . I am very happy with my Lucida - but it has a cedar top -- some players prefer spruce , but a top notch spruce top will run the bill up alot more - This forum also has a review section on guitars you should check out -Acousticguitar magazine has a forum , with a devoted classical guitar section you should look into - I am the fondest of spainish made guitars.
Members riffmeister Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 here is a good selection in the $300-$2100 range: http://www.classicalguitarstore.com/pages/guitars/display_search_guitars.html?search_soundboard=All&search_min_price=0&search_max_price=2100&search_string_length=All&search_back_and_sides=All&search_fretboard=All&search_country=All .
Members barneyc4 Posted March 25, 2007 Members Posted March 25, 2007 If you want a real classical guitar, don't get a cutaway one. I find those more suitable for flamenco. I suggest you check out this site and buy from them. www.guitarsaloninternational.com
