Trying to find information on a Mako acoustic guitar

Can anyone help me with an old guitar, that I'm trying to find information on? I had bought this guitar in Amsterdam in 1989, I don't even remember how much I paid for it, but couldn't be a lot. The top frets are nearly notched, and a fret replacement, neck and saddle adjustments would cost some $250, at the place I live.

It's an old Mako cutaway acoustic-electric, Korean-made, model MD233C, which most probably stands for Mako Dreadnought 233 Cutaway. The top looks like laminated something, natural finish, could be laminated spruce. The fingerboard is probably rosewood. The "electronics" is passive, with one volume and one tone knob, located on the side on top of the neck. Unplugged, it has a reasonable sound, but nobody would die for it I guess. When plugged, it has more of a clean electric sound rather than an acoustic sound, and the buzzing frets somehow go into amplification directly.

The question is, should I go for the fret and adjustment works, should I try to sell it, or just contribute to global warming by burning it? I don't want to go to a luthier and have him laugh his ass off, or try to rip me off.

Any help would be much appreciated.

The only Mako guitars I have come across were solid body 70's strat copies. All in all a good guitar is a good guitar no matter what the make, model, name, where it was made, etc. As far as I know when you have work done on a guitar you are not charged for the brand name or what the MSRP is. Asking around (here) what the average price in your area for the kind of work you need done might be a good start in helping you decide if the guitar is worth it to you to be made as playable as possible. Then you might go further and find a recomendation for a good shop.
