Members vinylphile Posted April 2, 2007 Members Posted April 2, 2007 Just recently picked up a used Martin HD-28 and will be restringing it soon. What a beautiful instrument! Any suggestions for strings? I'm mostly a strummer - folk and rock type music. Thanks!

Members whit townsend Posted April 2, 2007 Members Posted April 2, 2007 I've had a D28 Standard since 1985.Hard to beat good old Diadarrio phos bronze. They are available everywhere, and they seem to hold up well. But I'm pretty much of the string is a string camp. If I'm playing a lot and changing often, I buy the brand that I get the best deal on.I use Elixers now because I dont play as much and they last a lot longer, less bright out of the package tho.To get max bass and vol, go with meds. If you dont need that, ie, not playing bluegrass with loud banjos and mandos, the reg light ga is fine.
Members rjoxyz Posted April 2, 2007 Members Posted April 2, 2007 I have tried many string combinations on my HD-28. To my ears, D'addario EJ19 (PB Bluegrass gauge) and DR Sunbeams in 13-56 are the winners. I put as set of D'addario EXP's in Bluegrass gauge on this weekend to see how they would sound, as a coated version of the the EJ-19's. So far, so good.
