Members guitarist21 Posted April 6, 2007 Members Posted April 6, 2007 Still haven't bought it. I went back and looked at it more closely. Its an F-112. They're asking $790. And I'm guessing that's way too much. Something that totally frightened me that I didn't notice before was that the top was bowed in towards the soundhole. I don't know if I worded that correctly. It is most noticeable above the soundhole and below it, right under the pickguard. It appears to be ladder-braced, so I'm not too surprised but the top just dips in towards the soundhole. Is this reason to be really alarmed? Because I was moderately alarmed. Just wondering whether or not you guys thought it was worth haggling for a guitar with structural issues like these. Other than the top, there's nothing wrong with it. Its appropriately scratched up for a guitar from '68 and the neck looked/felt fine. Ellen
Members Hudman Posted April 6, 2007 Members Posted April 6, 2007 It sounds like it's been exposed to low humidity. The top would probably return to the normal position if the guitar was properly humidified. I would be more worried about the neck. That is a 39 year old guitar. It may end up costing a small bundle to reset the neck in the near future.

If it were me, I'd probably pass. Other opportunities will pop up.
Members JasmineTea Posted April 6, 2007 Members Posted April 6, 2007 I passed on $45 00 size git with what looked like braz back and sides for the same reason. I'd pass on it Ellen.
Members babablowfish Posted April 7, 2007 Members Posted April 7, 2007 Ellen, there will be other guitars. This is a 12 string for Pete's sake. How much longer do you suppose a 39 yr old 12 string is going to last anyway? You are dodging a bullet by letting this one go, IMHO, especially since money is tight.
Members guitarist21 Posted April 7, 2007 Author Members Posted April 7, 2007 Consider it not bought. Thanks guys! Ellen
