Hey all:

Whats the difference between a Grand Concert size acoustic and a Folk size, if any?

Thanks

I'm surprised nobody's taken a stab at this yet so, while I'm certainly no expert, here's my $.02:

A "folk" guitar is usually smaller than a dreadnought, bigger than a Grand Concert (but not by much) and has a different body shape than a dread. It would correspond roughly to a Martin 000.

"Grand Concerts" are the modern-day successors to the old parlor guitars in size, although not in body shape. The rough Martin equivalent would be an 00.

Just my (admittedly basic) opinion, I could be wrong.

Close...Grand Concert is a specific size of flat-topped steel-string guitar, whereas "folk" guitar is a pretty generic term that can mean different things to different people, but in general means a non-electric, non-arched top steel-string guitar...thus, to many people, a dreadnaught could be a "folk" guitar.

It's all good! :)

I've seen more and more guitars pop up called "folk" guitars in the vein of the LaSiDo Folk models...which are akin to 000's, but shaped more like Larrivee L-bodies (just smaller).

I'm with Terry on this one. Folk is a more general term than Grand Concert. Names of sizes are so arbitrary and they differ from company to company. It can be rather confusing.

From what I've seen, "folk" guitars are 0 or 00 sized and typically 3/4 the size of a dreadnought. Grand Concerts are only slightly smaller than dreads. The lower bouts are comparable in width compared to dreads but the waists are narrower and the body is often shallower.
