I have a Guild GAD G212 12 string on the way. Last night, in a fit of capriciousness, I ordered another Avalon, this time a Silver Series, from Music 123. They had an AS100CE on clearance, with an additional 10% off. Came out to only about $50 more than those eBay a$$holes. Should satisfy my desire (not to be confused with need) for an A/E guitar.

I am selling an Alvarez 12 string and an Alvarez AD60SCBK A/E on eBay to make room. I was not crazy about either of them, though I wasted a K & K Twin Spot I installed in the 12 string not too long ago.

I am sick I tell you. When I saw that "J-18", and listened to the clip, I got scared. There must be a 12 step program for compulsive guitar consumers. I need to go to a meeting or something.

Wow. Congrats! And... Congrats! Three in a month is nearly Whalebot's pace! I wasn't even aware Music123 carried Avalon. I have tried not to think about 12-strings. The Guild should be a killer. :thu: Hope you'll post reviews of everything.

That J-18 is terrifying. I cannot understand why it's priced so low. Sound clip is impressive. Sent them an email to ask, basically, what's the catch? If there is no catch, I hope they just don't reply. I can't afford that thing, no matter how great the price is.

I put mediums on my Breedlove. It sounds a lot better. If it implodes it will be a sad thing but such is the way of it. With a Bridge-Doctor in place on the thing I'm going to take the risk. I'll just play in a padded room away from everyone in case the pinless bridge sling-shots off the guitar. But, I'm also used to mediums now. I'm going to put them on the Seagull dread too. They really gave a better voice to the Breedlove and the Seagull needs a bit of that kind of ramping up.

I did try to get a handle on a 1-11/16" nut width but that just ain't happenin'. I play some pretty quick chord change-ups and that width stymies me. It would be great to have skinny little fingertips. My son's hands are now as big as mine but his fingertips are small. He has no problem playing his violin but the 1-1/8" mando nut cramps him.

I currently use 13-56's on my HD-28, Parkwood Jumbo, Avalon A101 (may switch to 12-54's), Fullerton Batsto Econo-dread and sometimes on my L-03. I have not been concerned about any risk to these guitars with Mediums, believing they were designed for them. Actually, my HD-28 sounds kinda crappy with lights, but is wonderful (as it should be) with mediums.

I have become very accustomed to the tension and prefer the stronger bass response and volume. I use 12-54's on my 000-15S, as it is limited to fingerpicking.

Is there really any long term risk to such guitars with mediums?

No risk I'm aware of. I'm just a giant wuss. It's good to know you and Cripes are using the same gauges on your - in my estimation - high-enders (edit: this didn't really make sense - I meant lightly-braced, as in HD-28, Breedlove...). I tend to be a bit bend-happy, which makes slightly lighter gauges attractive (I use 11/52 on my 000), but as soon as I have a dread in my hands I'm more inclined to use it for a strummer. Gonna hang onto the mediums for a while, give 'em a chance. They're already growing on me a bit.

Err, maybe it was a lake...

Actually, I've been hangin' out at some firearm forums lately. Kinda' disappointed with the handling of dumping Derivicus as moderator, so since I didn't have anything positive to say, well you know the rest...

Did miss you guys though...did I miss much?

Oh, back OT, sick Taylor, eh?

Here's the dealer's reply to some quick inquiries about the J-18:

The J-18 is in mint condition with no blemishes repaired or otherwise. The action is at Martin factory spec. The ripple is just bear claw figure and not a flaw, ripple or raised area. Bottom line is that it is a perfect and at least from appearances

"Absent" from all of this & other discussions, JT and CldP, among a few others.

991.....

My guess would be that Clip is out blowing up {censored} with his new rifle.

And JT? Out blowing up {censored} with his new OM-35...
