Members guit30 Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Well, Went up to George's music and checked out their acoustic room, It was in good shape, not a large selection, they did have both 114 and 214E (Taylors), I had a tuner and plenty of time so I checked em out. The 214 a bit too dark for me, never was a Rosewood fan, liked the 114, however, not enough to shell out $599. These Mexican Taylors are just not quite as good, but beat out the Martins they had, There was a Martin DM that was plain ugly, the frets were glued to the fretboard instead of the old fashioned way. I will say the Taylor Fretwork was excellent. Most of the other guitars were Ibanez and washburn, lots of A/E cutaways, I don't care for those. I had come to try out a new Sage series Ibanez Concert size guitar, it is all laminate and sounded gangly. They had an Artwood Concert that I played and fell in love with. Beautiful Engelmann Spruce top, great tone, easy to play neck and real comfortable. Set up good too, never tried Daddario exps, but these sounded good, pretty appointments too. Went right home and ordered one and a hs case from MF to save good money, tax, $10 cheaper, case $30 cheaper, Waitin' on the truck JimTake a Peakhttp://www.ibanez.com/acoustic/guitar.aspx?m=AC30NT
Members Hudman Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Congrats! That is a nice looking guitar.
Members daklander Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Congratulations but for that $10.00 price difference having the ability to buy the one that you played that felt & sounded so good, along with the shop being local would have had me buy from them. You could still have purchased the case from MF but I'm betting you could have really worked the package deal and got that case cost down closer as well. Again, congrats, I hope the one you ordered is as good.
Members guitarist21 Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Congrats! Expecting a full length report when you get it! Ellen
Members babablowfish Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Its nice to hear that you bought a guitar you feel excited about. Congratulations.
Members guit30 Posted April 13, 2007 Author Members Posted April 13, 2007 Thanks guys, Shop not so local, 15 miles away, they don't make deals, MF has always been good to meJim

Members DonK Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Looks very nice, can't wait for a review. I see Mindy's back.
Members guit30 Posted April 13, 2007 Author Members Posted April 13, 2007 Yeah Donk, Mindy is happy I'm done frettin about guitars, so she came back(LOL)JimPS-How's your 000?
Members Krash Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Pretty piece I've bought two Neezers from MF, an Artcore AS-73 and a GSR-200 bass. Both showed up in excellent shape, and I wouldn't hesitate to order another from them. The hard part is waiting for the truck. Enjoy it!
Members knockwood Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Congrats, Jim. Looking forward to hearing more when it arrives. Any idea when the truck is due?
Members MBWendel Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 I love Mahogany B/S. Looks great!
Members Dan Hall Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Glad to hear it Jim but. I'm confused. Weren't we talking recently about something easier to play with your wrists goofed up? Will this help?
Members learn'r Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Alright Jim! Congrats. I saw your other thread about a soundhole p/u - let us know how tht turns out to.
Members Dave W. Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Might be nice of you to send George a thank you note for allowing you to test drive a guitar, just so you could buy it somewhere else.

The nearest Guitar Center is nearly 10 miles from me (although to be honest I've never been there). My brother-in-law, who lives in the Dallas/Ft. Worth area, considers anything under 50 miles a short distance. Anyway, congratulations and welcome to the ranks of Ibanez owners. I see from the bridge design and the wood binding that this is one of their newer models. Let us know what you think. I'll be especially interested in the quality of finish since a previous thread about the AW800 downgraded that model for finish flaws. However, the reviewer also said if Ibanez can pay more attention to detail they could potentailly give Epi Masterbilts a run for their money. The grand concert body should work out somewhat better than a dread if weight is still a consideration for you. A bit bigger than a 000 with more low end.
Members guit30 Posted April 13, 2007 Author Members Posted April 13, 2007 George's Music is a large local chain with a store in Disney world, if their prices had been competitive, I would have bought it there, but they were more expensive, and their cases started at $69 to over $100, I ordered a MF classical case for $39. I have bought 2 guitars there and many amps. I don't feel the need to thank them, I was considering buying theirs. The finish is superb, reminds me of a Pro series Alvarez. The bridge and nut are a bit innovative, but it really plays nice, sounds good with the Daddario exp strings on it, for a small guitar, it beat out a Washburn concert size that was twice the price. The neck is lo profile D shape, a bit thicker than my Alvarez. It has real abalone rosette and gorgeous Maple binding. Looks like it might be made in the same Chinese factory that Alvarez uses, sticker is almost identical ,but with different names, still have not gotten a Shipping confirmation. Another reason for MF, is the 45 day refund policy, no deal like that here, you have to exchange for something else in store. I was seriously considering a Blueridge Br-43 ,I have played a couple, imho, this beats it outJim

Since you knew they don't make deals, it sounded like you were just taking advantage of them with no intent to buy. If it is similar to GC, that's a little different.
Members Bernie P. Posted April 13, 2007 Members Posted April 13, 2007 Grats on the guitar! Round here it's 10 miles to the nearest anything.Drove 58 miles to GC the other day.
Members DonK Posted April 14, 2007 Members Posted April 14, 2007 Yeah Donk, Mindy is happy I'm done frettin about guitars, so she came back(LOL)JimPS-How's your 000? Love the 000. It's exactly what I was looking for. I suppose I could convince myself that I wish it was a Martin, but the only Martin with the same specs is the 000-28EC, and as far as I'm concerned that guitar is way overpriced - it must include at least $800 just for Clapton's name. I loved the 000-28 I once owned, but wished it had had the wider nut width. I swear this Johnson easily sounds as good, and that was a great-sounding guitar. I'm tellin' ya - I know I own a few marquis guitars, but for the past year my Aria AD-80 - a Martin D-42 clone - has gotten more playing time than any other, and the Johnson is going to be right up there with it, I can tell already.

Looks like it might be made in the same Chinese factory that Alvarez uses, sticker is almost identical ,but with different names, . . . Previous ArtWood models have been made in Korea by Cort. Since there are some changes like the bridge design, it's possible Ibanez has farmed out the manufacturing to someone else, or Cort has transferred production to China.
Members 0rbitz9 Posted April 15, 2007 Members Posted April 15, 2007 Sounds great guit30. Glad to hear that you'll be back to playing to a good reliable guitar, and not having to go through all of the fuss anymore.
Members GuitarCrazy Posted April 15, 2007 Members Posted April 15, 2007 Very Cool! I have been looking at them myself, looking forward to a review.
