Members BAZGUITARMAN Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 Well, I`m still researching my big A/E purchase coming up next year. I stumbled across this model while brousing the Takamine website. I`ve always wanted an all Koa acoustic and this one looks like it will fill my specs. I`ll post a link so you guys can look at it, but I`m specifically interested in any personal experience with this specific model. I noticed while reading the model description that nowhere does it mention "solid wood". This tells me that this model is of laminate construction. I have a local Takamine dealer, but I`m sure the chances of him having this particular model in stock is slim. I will be paying him a visit and playing all the Takimines he has in stock. http://www.takamine.com/?fa=detail&mid=1985&sid=67 I`ll also take any feedback on Takamine in general. How is their quality, consistancy, playability, electronics, etc.? Thanks, Eric

Members dadgad7 Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 I also was very interested in that very guitar, I contacted Takamine and asked the exact same question, there was some dolt on eBay claiming all-solid-wood, Takamine set me straight, it is an all laminate model, now that doesn't necessarily mean it's bad, but for the price I'd rather go with solid wood, which I did, she's beautiful though huh?
Members dadgad7 Posted June 1, 2006 Members Posted June 1, 2006 and oh yeah....I'd recommend Tak's all day long, playability is practically unbeatable! Electronics are fantastic, but so are many factory preamps nowadays, Alvarez makes a nice one now, Ovation too, but I just despise Ovations, all that plastic, and the necks never feel 'right'

I also contacted Takamine about this same thing. They got back to me today and gave me the same info. They also said that they had two other models that had solid Koa bodies for about $100.00 more. I`m going to get back with them and see what models they are. Right now I`m still leaning toward the Alvarez MD90C. It`s got the exact features I`m looking for, but I can be swayed by Koa. I`m lucky. My local dealer who I have been doing business with for about 20 years, is an Alvarez, Takamine, Martin and Tayler dealer. He`s only ten minutes down the road and will beat anyone`s prices. Thanks for the feedback bro. Eric
