Members lippy Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 Would it be out of line to ask if anyone has any good recommendations for online instruction? I've signed up for some, and they seem pretty good. Just wondering what else is out there. Thanks, Jim
Members knockwood Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 Workshop Live seems decent - from the free demos. I think about signing up now and then, but so far my cheap half is winning that conflict... http://www.workshoplive.com/
Members Bamadawg Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 I just bought me and my 15 y/o guitars to learn on. I did a bit of reading about online lessons and this place always seems to get decent reviews: http://jamorama.com/ Its actually a program you buy then download to your computer. It has 2 lesson books, plus some advanced lessons that come as extra's. What I like about it so far is it has video clips that demo each thing thats being taught. The video is shot at 2 angles, one window shows a close-up of the hand on the strings of the fretboard, the other camera shot shows the actual strumming of the strings. A bonus is you can print out the lessons to read/practice offline also. I think for $39.95 ($29.95 special some days) its a good lil program. The extra's include a online metronome, pro tuner, advanced learning tips. This DVD course gets very high marks... tho not cheap! http://www.learnandmasterguitar.com/ Nate
Members jsgates Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 I just signed up for a premium membership at e-chords.com last night. Very nice site and top notch tabs with chord diagrams and everything. You also get some free software when you sign up for year membership. It's only $20. You can add songs that you want to learn to your "songbook" on the site from the tabs section. Premium membership includes some video lessons of songs and there is a section for beginner to learn fundamentals. I say, combine this site with Cyberfret.com and you can't go wrong. Oh, you also get a free copy of Billion Chords Dictionary software when you sign up for a year at e-chords. Just click on the chord and it will play the chord for you, so you can make sure you are playing it right. Look up any chord with this software. I was impressed with it. Just my.02

Just my.02 E Chords is pretty sweet, between the video lessons and the tab. with the premium membership you can take any tabbed song and translate it steps up.
Members Queequeg Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 National Public Radio did a story yesterday about online guitar lessons. They pointed to a couple of different guys on youtube. over 200 lessons by the one guy.this was one of them, I think
Members Freeman Keller Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 I personally have a hard time with my guitar in front of a computer, I do much better with video and dvd lessons on my TV. However I do download a lot of tab from the Internet. But here are a few lessons that I'm aware of. If you are into the blues, Little Brother's lessons are supposed to be very good http://littlebrotherblues.com/Lessons/index.html There was an English chap named "Blindboy" who had some great lessons on YouTube, but he pulled them because of some pissy arguement. If you are interested in these PM me. If you subscribe to AG magazine, they also have some online lessons or reprints from back issues http://www.acousticguitar.com/index.asp
Members lippy Posted April 3, 2007 Author Members Posted April 3, 2007 Thanks for the help. I'll be checking these out shortly. Jim
Members amackay11 Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 I saw this site posted on here awhile ago. It is free software with a fairly large library of available songs. http://www.consult-eco.ndirect.co.uk/guitar/tab.htm
Members Krash Posted April 3, 2007 Members Posted April 3, 2007 www.guitaraxis.com has a very good selection of instructional dvd's.
Members jamesp Posted April 4, 2007 Members Posted April 4, 2007 The folks at MusicMoose are putting up some very innovative online lessons. I haven't checked out their guitar lessons yet, but Anthony Hannigan has some very helpful beginning mandolin lessons up. He's also experimenting with online conference-room lessons that I've heard good things about. I think just about any musician could take something away from Ryan Cavanaugh's banjo lessons too.

Members Berkleo Posted April 11, 2007 Members Posted April 11, 2007 .... If you are into the blues, Little Brother's lessons are supposed to be very good http://littlebrotherblues.com/Lessons/index.html +1..I've bought a few of Little Brothers lessons and they're a lot of fun. Great deal for the $$. On the free side: Search "guitar lessons" on YouTube and you'll be busy for a very long time... This guy is one of my faves: http://www.youtube.com/results?search=related&search_query=Guitar%20lesson%20classic%20rock%20riff%20lick%20solo%20lead%20intro%20chords%20tab%20strumming%20picking%20clapton%20layla%20unplugged&v=cKVWnf4b1Ic Some lessons are better than others but I really likes the way he covered Zep's "Over The Hills And Far Away". He made it very accessible. and ActoGuitar seems pretty good: http://www.actoguitar.com/ Have fun!
Members fatback Posted April 11, 2007 Members Posted April 11, 2007 When I have a few minutes spare I sometimes look at this site.http://http://www.ericlugosch.com/lessonhome.html Each lesson graded - enjoy most of them Phil
Members Monkeywork Posted April 17, 2007 Members Posted April 17, 2007 http://www.workshoplive.com/playfree Is worth checking out, over 2100 lessons online so far, with over 50 different teachers. Jazz, blues, rock, acoustic, fingerstyle, slide, from beginner to advanced. animated music, fretboards with tab and video lessons. Needs broadband though. Dial-up won't cut it.
Members RizinRico Posted April 19, 2007 Members Posted April 19, 2007 I will +1 Music Moose. its free and there are lessons for guitar mando banjo and harmonica. maybe more since I have been there last
Members Jon Chappell Posted April 19, 2007 Members Posted April 19, 2007 Workshoplive is one of the best. Also good is http://guitarplayertv.com. They've got basic lesson stuff by instructors, as well as celebrity clinics.
