Members Matt08642 Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 I want to get an acoustic again, and I want a 6 string acoustic, what are some good brands to look in to in the sub $1000 range?
Members KrisKunisch Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 Walden, Seagull, Simon & Patrick, Epiphone Masterbuilt, Guild GAD, Morgan Monroe, Blueridge
Members Hudman Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 KrisKunisch gave you some excellent advice. I would like to add Larrivee to his list. Larrivee is one of the best brands under $1000.

Members Kindras Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 I've only tried the godin brand ones, and they sound amazing for thier price Anyone know if Takamine's are worth it?
Members KrisKunisch Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 Oh forgot to mention, aside from brands...solid tops, solid b&s, dovetail neck joints (unless the brand or you prefer bolt or mortis/tenon application), the material of the bracing. Be annoying, it's your money...make that salesperson work for it.

IMO, yes, but I am biased. A lot of brands make awesome guitars in that price range, but the ones that have been mentioned are simply the most raved about.
Members Matt08642 Posted April 24, 2007 Author Members Posted April 24, 2007 So far I've been looking at the Epiphone Masterbilt AJ-500R http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Epiphone-Masterbilt-AJ500R-Acoustic-Guitar?sku=518103 and the Morgan Monroe M-50D http://shsaudio.com/m50.htm Good choices?
Members LiveMusic Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 I've never heard of Morgan Monroe but it looks good. How much is street price?
Members guitarist21 Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 Anyone know if Takamine's are worth it? Takamine is known for their well-made acoustic electric guitars. On the whole they are very good guitars. Ellen
Members Bernie P. Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 Cant go wrong with the AJ-dont know anything about the other.
Members Abando Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 Matt, when looking at the Epiphone Masterbilts, make sure you pick the guitar with the nut width you want. If you want a thin neck, you should pick the DR or AJ. If you want a nut width of 1.75, you should pick the EF-500 guitar. Epiphone Masterbilts are great guitars. Just in keep in mind what kind of body and neck you want when picking. Abando
Members whit townsend Posted April 24, 2007 Members Posted April 24, 2007 Dont overlook the 15 series Martins.
