Members d03nut Posted April 22, 2007 Members Posted April 22, 2007 Gather 'round close, hush hush....it would appear that the E.S.C. is currently experiencing some difficulties, that they're losing some very qualified people. The recent "test" results haven't exactly helped matters either. I understand that "money" has always been an issue with them but I do question their "accounting practices", more specifically, their approach to "costing", which needs a major update. Also, IMO, they're only concerned with immediate returns. This absence of a "long-term" outlook is preventing them from seeing the bigger picture and thus hurting them where it counts, in the "forum" of public opinion. There's gonna be some major changes at the "top" levels. You can be sure of that. Remember you didn't hear it from me. That being said, I know everyone here, member or not, wishes them the best. Any other "rumors" out there? I know the CMWANLW is looking for new members. 998
Members Cripes Posted April 22, 2007 Members Posted April 22, 2007 Loose lips sink ships. I am not a member in good standing with the ESC. I am not a "joiner" of groups lest it leave me labeled. However, I do not disagree with them nor the opposition. It is a subjective, shapeless and uncontained camp without fixed borders or entry/exit points. Members cannot be assembled and tallied so no quorum can be derived. It may best be perceived as a wind of opinion blowing with varying velocities from all points of the compass toward a black hole, where all discussions of inconsequential matters are attracted, leaving no one satisfied though they might gain a meaningful lesson by simply glimpsing inside that great black hole of inconsequence. "Hello darkness my old friend..." Edit: PUI
Members JasmineTea Posted April 22, 2007 Members Posted April 22, 2007 999??? Man, that's mighty close. Let this be a pre-congratulations...BBTTTOH. We're still getting $40 a crack for our well loved "Elixirs Suck!" T-shirts. Far as I know, we're still in good shape. I did'nt listen to the string test...
Members kwakatak Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 I respect the ESC but I was never a member. I also like Takamines which has earned me some flak from some HCAG regulars.
Members DonK Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 Mea culpa. I've switched to Elixirs on all my guitars except my Johnson. I still don't like their sound on small-bodied guitars, so I'm sticking with Martin SP's for my Johnson (my Taylor 414 is technically a small bodied guitar, but it's really voiced like a dread IMO, and is virtually as loud, so I've got Elixirs on it too). Funny, I hated the sound of Elixirs on my D-28 when I had it, but admittedly, that was back in the Polyweb days. When I got my D-41 I tried Nano's and thought they sounded better, but not quite there. Now I've got Nano PB's on it and they sound great. It works for me because I like the way Elixirs hold their tone longer, much longer in my case.
Members knockwood Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 :blah: You can have my uncoated P/Bs when you pry them from my cold dead hands!

Members DonK Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 What's The ESC I think it's the "Elixirs Suck Club", which I believe was founded by JT.
Members guitarist21 Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 I did'nt listen to the string test... http://acapella.harmony-central.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1556148 Go. Its amazing. As for the ESC, I, for one still love my Martin SP's. And I could totally be in the CMWANLW. I have no life but softball and that, my friends, is not much of a life! Very sunburned! Ellen
Members Krash Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 Just put a set of Nano PB's on my Harmony last week. Never tried coated strings before. They sound good, but I can't see, hear, or feel the coating. Near as I can tell, the only difference between these and uncoated strings is $8.00 and a little hype. Don't believe FK's string test compared the Poly's or Nano's with the same uncoated strings. I'll try the D'Addario PB's next, and see if there's any diff.
Members KrisKunisch Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 Elixirs are decent, but I'm still quite partial to my uncoated "buy two sets for the price of one coated set" phosphor bronze strings. Sometimes I will spend a tad extra on DR strings (which sometimes are priced the same as Elixirs), but I feel the price reflects the product and not the coating on top of it.

That's the point: if you can't see, hear or feel the coating, that's ideal. Now, two months for now, ask yourself how they sound. In my experience, they'll still sound pretty good.
Members babablowfish Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 I still have not recovered from the humiliation of going on record as hating Eixirs and then choosing them in Freeman's string test.
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 Well, after trying out the D'Addario EXP J16s, I can honestly say that anytime I can't find a set of Poly Lights, these will be an acceptable substitute...but only that!

Members babablowfish Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 These things happen... That is exactly what I said to Captain Joseph Hazelwood. He felt a whole lot better as well.
Members Queequeg Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 Remember Elixirs don't kill People; Guitars kill People (well, if you play electric in the bathtub). So, over the weekend I was picking up a carrot cake at the bakery for my son's birthday (before he arrived and we went into Detroit for the Don Ross concert). next door to the bakery was a beverage store and I stopped in there to grab a couple of special beers to throw in with his birthday loot, and low & behold, I found this Kwak Beer; Belgian Specialty Ale. Well, whadaya know about that! Later that same weekend I ordered a L-05MT. I hope it will be here later this week. But I have to sell the Taylor 812ce to pay for it. You can take a look if you're interested. (sneaking that spam in as if nobody would notice.) what were we talking about? oh yeah Elixirs. Try 'em with ketchup. you won't regret it.
Members missedmyexit Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 Ordered my Sunbeams last week and got them this weekend. So far I like them alot. My girl friend was working most of the weekend so they got a good workout. Question is how will they sound in a week or two. I've always though that for double the price Elixirs keep their tone three times as long. I personally like their tone but they seem to break on me before I can cash in on the extra time they give you.

Careful with that Kwak beer. It's bold and bitter and Belgian so it's kind of evil too! BTW - congrats on the upcoming NGD. I will put your name on the "envy" list.
Members Queequeg Posted April 23, 2007 Members Posted April 23, 2007 thanks, Kwak. (just in case you were looking for a new or a temporary avatar...)And don't put me on the envy list, @ least until I get the Taylor sold. Until then I am on the "dumb ass indebted" list.

Congrats on the L-05MT. I get GAS fits every time I think about Clippity's L-05MT. Was planning to buy one for a while... but that was weeks ago...
