Members gt5litre Posted April 26, 2007 Members Posted April 26, 2007 I have had several Martins (D-18V, HD-28, D-15 Spruce/Rosewood, never been a fan of the "Taylor" tone, but I found the warmth, note clarity, great bass, mids and highs and sustain in a 12 Fret Yairi Spruce and Rosewood Dread. Great playability, much better than my Martins(even after a setup), plays as well as any Taylor, nice and loud for playing bluegrass, can be do well as a solo vocal accompaniant and loves fingerpicking too. I have a a 1975 Yairi DY77 and have loved it. This new DY is louder and fuller and it is new (NOS 2005) that is not even broken in. Now to figure out what to sell to pay for it:confused: . gt5litre
Members gt5litre Posted April 26, 2007 Author Members Posted April 26, 2007 I also found the 12-fret neck and longer body are quite a bit more comfortable to play, especially seated. Have others found this to be true? gt5litre
Members Freeman Keller Posted April 26, 2007 Members Posted April 26, 2007 There is a lot of love for the slope shouldered Martin dreads - 12 fret, wide neck, slot head - yours sounds similar. I would love to see a picture. And yes, I happen to like twelve fretters and would have built my 12 string as one but couldn't source all the parts. On many the bridge is move down into the center of the lower bout which, it has been argued, is like hitting a drum in the center rather than close to the rim.
