Members Doctor Morbius Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 A friend of mine recently pointed out an interesting fact about Willie Nelson's guitar. It seems to have a hole worn in it the size of the Grand Canyon. Perhaps the additional sound hole is for stereo? Perhaps we could take up a few donations and get him a Fullerton Jumbo?
Members missedmyexit Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 How does that hole keep getting bigger? Does he do bong hits through his guitar? What Willie needs is the handbook on guitar caring and maintenance. Giving him a new guitar to destroy won't fix the problem. I think he plays Tigger for the look. When he gets offstage he probably has half a dozen Collins waiting for him in a humidified tour bus.
Members T0MCAT Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 That there geetar, is Smithsonian material IMO. After Willie passes on, what will the price tag be on that thing? Willie is one of my favorite acoustic players, I saw him a 10 years back, and he played great. Too bad he couldn't loose his band, especially that inferenal banchee-like electric harmonica player he has, I'd rather stick a sharpened pencil in my ear. Willie and that guitar is all that is needed; it's a crime to muck that up with most anything else.

I think Trigger's tone is mostly attributable to the pickup. Actually, I think when he gets off stage Willie has a half dozen joints waiting for him in his tour bus (I actually have first-hand confirmation of this, but it is a very long story with background too complicated to explain).
Members Tony Burns Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 That trigger just keps getting cooler and cooler - its probably the most talked about guitar on the net ! Im betting thou off stage he probably has a Larrivee !
Members Stackabones Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 Perhaps we could take up a few donations and get him a Fullerton Jumbo? That's not a gut-string is it?
Members Freeman Keller Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 That's not a gut-string is it? you mean Trigger? Yes, Martin N-20 legend has it that our TAH has touched it
Members EvilTwin Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 I think Willy prefers a guitar that, like him, isn't too pretty.
Members DonK Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 Willie Nelson, Trigger, Keef Richards: talk about "rode hard and put away wet".
Members missedmyexit Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 I wouldn't even call it a guitar. That's a "Situation"

Members stork1122 Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 gotta love willie. he is one of my fav's. He claims the extra hole complements his voice better, which is odd b/c he cant sing worth a flip. lol. Still puts on great live shows at his age.
Members Dave W. Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 b/c he cant sing worth a flip. lol. Really

Members KATMAN Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 I read in a guitar mag that Willie says the hole is a result of him playing with a heavy pick. It could be that, but still, that's one ugly guitar.
Members BigRed51 Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 I bet he doesn't even keep a humidifier in the case ...
Members Mikeo Posted May 3, 2007 Members Posted May 3, 2007 Trigger is a a classical guitar as many of you know or can see, it was really never ment to play with a pick. I think I have heard he purchased it new in the late 60's
Members Terry Allan Hall Posted May 4, 2007 Members Posted May 4, 2007 The truth is that while Willie has a lot of guitars, "Trigger" is his guitar...I was VERY honored that he allowed me to play it once, as he doesn't allow many to do so! It's never more than a few steps away from either himself or his "personal roadie", whose job is to (A) guard "Trigger" and (B) keep track of "combustibles" ()... As for it's sound, yes, part of it's sound is that Prismatone P/U, but, acoustically, "Trigger" sounds remarkably good w/o any amplification (at least as of the time I played it, in 1982), especially considering how beat-up it is. The hole came from a combination of Willie's use of Fender 461 Medium picks and his hoof-like nails...no idea why he didn't install a pickguard when the face first started showing wear (about 1972 or so).
Members Stackabones Posted May 4, 2007 Members Posted May 4, 2007 you mean Trigger? Yes, Martin N-20 I know Willie's git is a gut. Geesh. What kind of noob do you think I am, FK? I was talking about the Fullerton Jumbo that the good doctor was recommending? It's not a gut-string, is it? Jumbo? Nah. Can't be.
Members bunghole Posted May 4, 2007 Members Posted May 4, 2007 When I saw Willie he sounded great with Trigger. He'll use that thing until it breaks beyond all repair or he dies (Hope to god its the former). I loves Willie!
Members g6120 Posted May 4, 2007 Members Posted May 4, 2007 Man I'll bet that guitar has some stories to tell!
Members KATMAN Posted May 4, 2007 Members Posted May 4, 2007 I wonder if Martin will ever put a "Willie Nelson" model, classical, complete with scratches, signatures, and a hole in the body? If so,it might be up there, next to a Gibson "Les Paul" model!
Members gotboostvr Posted May 4, 2007 Members Posted May 4, 2007 rumor has it, when trigger finaly falls apart, willie is retiring.
