Members Sanda Posted May 7, 2007 Members Posted May 7, 2007 I went to GC and Georges's Music in Orlando today to check out pre amps for my Epiphone EJ160e. I tried the LR Baggs acoustic DI,an eq pedal and an acoustic preamp pedal.. Nothing seemed to make it sound like my Ovation. I went to the acoustic room in GC and began playing every style and brand of guitar in one of their smalls rooms withing the big room. I played each guitar...probably 12-14 in the same place in the room to give each guitar the same starting point. I brought along a friend of mine that runs sound so I'd have someone else to hear the sound as well. I played the 2999 Gibsons... which by the way sound great and it came in second place.. played breedloves, martins, yamahas, takamines.... and the winner was... Parkwood PW360M.... dammit .. the thing just boomed...very well balanced, not too much bass... and not too much high end. ...really amazing sound... So now comes the haggling .... I tell you ... if you know what you want and are ready to lay down the $.. they will work with you on the price... 1249 retail.. 799 sticker... out the door for 585 +79 for a nice HSC... Cudos to GC for workin with a brother.... I'm so stoked... GAS got me....

Members Sanda Posted May 7, 2007 Author Members Posted May 7, 2007 I'll get the digital camera out and see if I can take a few... I usually do serious homework before going out and buying something and especially reading reviews... this time I let my ears do the thinking... I see why so many people discourage buying an acoustic off the internet without putting one in your hand and playing them and letting your ears and hands make the decision...
Members Fred Fartboski Posted May 7, 2007 Members Posted May 7, 2007 So you went in for a pre-amp and you walked out with a Parkwood? Sort of the same story as mine. I walked in one day a few weeks ago just to kill a little time and walked out with a Parkwood jumbo 340FM.
Members Sanda Posted May 8, 2007 Author Members Posted May 8, 2007 This guitar is amazingly loud... LOUD... I'm just thrilled... now I have to unload the Epi and the Ovation..
Members Hudman Posted May 8, 2007 Members Posted May 8, 2007 Congrats! Parkwoods are made by Cort. They are exceptional guitars for the money.
Members Misha_yeah! Posted May 8, 2007 Members Posted May 8, 2007 Congrats for your new Parkwood!! I'm the proud owner of a Cort (dread) Earth Custom. http://www.cort.co.kr/english/products/acoustics/view.asp?product_id=159# I won't ever sell it! (and I've been told not to). I keep trying lots of other guitars and I keep saying:" Mine is better! Mine feels better!" Have fun!
Members Sanda Posted May 8, 2007 Author Members Posted May 8, 2007 I played with the LR Baggs DI for some time but with every tweak ... nothing made the Epi really pop.... I guess it is the design of pickup ... just sounds like an electric guitar when plugged in.... I even tried an Eq pedal and that seemed to help somewhat...but the sound that I was looking for just wasn't there..

Parkwoods and most other Cort-made guitars are well respected hereabouts. I own an Ibanez Artwood made by Cort and they're seriously underrated. Clearly, Cort isn't the second largest guitar maker in the world for nothing.
Members AugTPD Posted May 8, 2007 Members Posted May 8, 2007 I second the motion that Cort makes good stuff!! I think their NTL series acoustics look interesting. Nice mini-jumbos with 1.75" nut widths. But back on topic, enjoy that Parkwood. The last time I was at GC I about ruined one of their guitars drooling on it!! It was the OM size special edition, all solid Australian Blackwood. Looked kinda like Koa but maybe a little darker. A sweet hunk o' wood it was!

Brighter than Koa I think. Intricate and complex. Very nice. I didn't like the fret job quite as much as the rest of the guitar though. Nothing that a file and crown wouldn't fix.
