Members nathandublya Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 Hi there, Im currently interested in purchasing a Fender CD140SCE http://www.fender.com/products/search.php?partno=0961405021 The place that usually has them in my town has no stock how ever they can get one with a "Gloss" finish instead of the "Satin" finish. My question is this: Will the gloss finish have a bearing on how the guitar sounds at all? When I originally played the guitar it was the Satin finish one which I was extremely happy with. Really what I want to know is will there be any difference other than visual in comparison to the Satin and Gloss finish? Does anyone else here have one of these? What are your thoughts? I couldnt find any reviews on them in the User Reviews.
Members moctzal Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 Well as far as the type of finish affecting sound, some might say it does, others might say it doesn't. I don't think many people here play Fender acoustics...
Members Freeman Keller Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 Don't know how Fender does it, but for some manufacturers the only difference is that satin doesn't have the final hand polishing step (it is the same material applied in the same fashion). If you can save two hours of labor on a thousand guitars it is a significant cost savings. In fact, a lot of people do polish their satin guitars to a "semi gloss" (I did it to my T314), and the neck and some areas of the back will sort of polish themselves from use. The only sound difference is that some people think that satin has slightly less "swishy" sound from your shirt on the back. You rarely hear of anyone dulling their glossy finish, however.
Members guit30 Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 I've tried some of the new Fenders, I would look elsewhere Jim
