Members geddyentwistle Posted May 17, 2007 Members Posted May 17, 2007 the goal is to convert a standard guitar into a slide/dobro type instrument googling for nut riser hasn't been very helpful, other than musicians friend any suggestions?
Members Freeman Keller Posted May 17, 2007 Members Posted May 17, 2007 try "nut extender" - StewMac, Resonator Outfitters, Beard Guitars..... http://www.stewmac.com/shop/Nuts,_saddles/Resonator_nuts,_saddles/Slide_Guitar_Extension_Nut.html edit to add: be a little careful putting a set of "dobro" strings and tuning UP to "dobro G" on a standard acoustic. That adds a fair amount of tension to the top. Regular open G or D is no problem.
Members daklander Posted May 17, 2007 Members Posted May 17, 2007 If you're going to just use the guitar for slide just slip in a taller nut. There is a "nut raiser" called the "Perfect Nut" that you can get from Elderly. It can be removed so you can play normally. Some years ago I saw some kind of nut raiser that flipped up or down but haven't seen or heard about it for years so it may not be available any longer.
