Members LiveMusic Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 Even have this happen? Maybe once or twice a year, suddenly, a very sharp pain when I fret a chord. Tip of index finger. I will try not to play today as it hurts like hell. Very sharp pain.
Members SpaceCowboy409 Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 That's happened to me a few times. Index or middle finger, like there's a tiny splinter or something, below the surface that the string pushes into a nerve. I have no idea what causes it, but it's gone in a day or two at most.
Members exhaust_49 Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 I get that once in a while. I get the sharp pain when fretting. Even if I just brush my finger aginst the strings I feel the sharp pain.
Members Hudman Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 I'm pretty sure it is a bone bruise. I had one several months ago. It took 3 or 4 weeks for it to heal.
Members guit30 Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 That was the first signal of my pinched nerves in my neck, hope it's something simple for youJIm
Members AugTPD Posted May 16, 2007 Members Posted May 16, 2007 Play through the pain!!!!!! J/K, I've had that before and I think Hud is correct on the bone bruise thing (or at least it sure sounds like a good explanation).

J/K, I've had that before and I think Hud is correct on the bone bruise thing (or at least it sure sounds like a good explanation). I bruised mine playing a guitar with high action at the nut. I filed down the nut slots and never had that problem again.
Members rhythmdoctor Posted May 21, 2007 Members Posted May 21, 2007 I get the sharp pain every couple of months or so - I've always wanted to ask others as well. It's so weird, like others have stated, it's very sensitive even the lightest pressure will make it hurt. If it's a bone bruise, how come it can go away within a few hours or a day but then come back months later?
Members ririzarry Posted May 22, 2007 Members Posted May 22, 2007 That does not sound like a bone bruise. Regards, Robert
Members EvilTwin Posted May 22, 2007 Members Posted May 22, 2007 Wow, I'm not alone. I used to get this more when I was gigging out and playing a lot. Now it's much more rare. I probably haven't had that happen in about two years, but I remember the feeling. I have no idea what it is, but as noted earlier in this thread, it goes away pretty quickly.
