Members psilocyborg Posted May 20, 2007 Members Posted May 20, 2007 I'm in the market for a classical, and I was hoping for a little input. I'm sure this has come up countless times before, but either I'm an idiot or the search function on this board is imprecise and incapable of boolean logic, because I always get pages and pages of threads. Anyways, I'm looking to spend somewhere in the realm of 200 to 400 bucks on anything half-way decent. I see that Alvarez, Dean and Yamaha all have a little something in this price range. I'm wary of the Yamaha's because they apparantly have a slimmer neck profile. This is something I would prefer under most circumstances, but I'm not sure how suitable it would be for doing classical work (which is the whole reason I'm looking into nylon string guitars in the first place). How do these companies compare? Any other recommendations? Also, should I go ahead and get a new guitar, or look for something used, something that has mellowed with age? Any other thoughts/advice? Much thanks in advance.

Members 32-20-Blues Posted May 20, 2007 Members Posted May 20, 2007 I have a La Patrie Presentation that I love. Solid Cedar top, laminated rosewood back and sides, truss rod in the neck (not really a priority, but useful seeing as I travel with the guitar), solid tuners and perfectly compensated saddle. I got it with a case for 480 dollars, so 400 will get you one. Absolutely beautiful sounding guitar. One thing I will warn you about is that they are satin finished, which means they resonate well and scratch easily. Just bear it in mind. Good luck with the purchase.
