Members mikeymaestro Posted May 28, 2007 Members Posted May 28, 2007 I'm looking for some sort of skin or cling to protect the finish on my acoustic? been playin in a sandy area at a resort and the sand is beating the crap out of it thanks mikey
Members babablowfish Posted May 28, 2007 Members Posted May 28, 2007 That's why many of us have guitars that are called "beaters." These are guitars that, although comfortable to play and pleasing to listen to, are cosmetically challenged or soon will be and we don't care. I have an old Yamaha of indeterminate model# that I take to the beach, bang into things, etc. and it serves its purpose well. I wouldn't dream of taking my Parkwood, Washburn or better Yamahas to such hostile environments. If your guitar is not expensive, then why not designate it as your beater and stop worrying? If it is too valuable to put through such abuse, then why not just get a beater and keep this one at home?
Members JoeyJoJo Posted May 28, 2007 Members Posted May 28, 2007 yep, sometimes guitars get worn downat least you're getting paid to do it right?
Members Markuster Posted May 28, 2007 Members Posted May 28, 2007 They make products like this for electrics: http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Scratch-Pad-Velvet-Guitar-Finish-Protector?sku=429700 I would think they would kill the sound of an acoustic, particularly if you put it on the soundboard. Of course, if you're an Elvis fan with deep pockets: http://www.mosbyguitars.com/acover.html
Members Hamhand Posted May 28, 2007 Members Posted May 28, 2007 I just talked to a guy in our local music shop that made his own classical guitar, and he was protecting the back and sides with a cover that had an elastic edge. I think it left most of the soundboard uncovered. He said he got it off ebay.
Members mikeymaestro Posted May 28, 2007 Author Members Posted May 28, 2007 this is the thing, I needed it to sound great at the gig, great electronics etc. This is actually a designated guitar for that purpose its an ibanex koa exotic wood series. I want it to look good and sound good. We are being paid well to be there. I understand i can just replace it regularly with the fees were charging. but i really like this guitar and hate to see it get scratched on the front. it's a pretty look and just like to help keep it that way if i can
