Members candidaloo Posted June 4, 2007 Members Posted June 4, 2007 I recently spoted hairline crack on my all solid guitar. The most obvious crack is about 30cm on the side of the gig near the plug in. The crack is also visible from inside. But the wood look sturdy and no change when i pressed on it. there are also cracks on the back but those cracks were not visible from the inside. I have attached a picture of the long hairline crack at the side. Do i need a repair for this guitar? Thanks
Members mikechoate Posted June 4, 2007 Members Posted June 4, 2007 If it doesn't give when you press on it, personally I wouldn't worry about it. If it does concern you, take it to a luthier.
Members guit30 Posted June 4, 2007 Members Posted June 4, 2007 Youshould definirly hydrate the guitar, do you have a hygrometer and humidifier, lo humidity can kill a guitar, found that out myself this yearJim
Members Freeman Keller Posted June 4, 2007 Members Posted June 4, 2007 Humidity can cause cracks in the back and sides, but I don't think it is nearly as common as the top. Far more common is some kind of abuse - the common side crack is also known as the "key crack" (from your car keys in your pocket). Anyway, whatever the cause (if it is humidity get that right and keep it right) they can and should be fixed - probably cleated although the curved side is sometimes strengthened with a piece of surgical gauze soaked in some glue.
