Members mdintx Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 Hey Folks, I just got a postcard today that Guitar World Acoustic will no longer be published and that my remaining subscription will be transfered to regular Guitar World. I'm totally bummed about this...Have you guys gotten this???
Members DonK Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 I haven't, but then I never subscribed to it. I bought it at the newsstand occasionally, but ultimately I never cared for it, much preferring Acoustic Guitar.
Members denvertrakker Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 Totally shocked...not. Guitar World Acoustic was, like, I dunno...steak recipes for vegetarians? +1 for Acoustic Guitar
Members T.B. Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 I bought Guitar World AG off the rack when an issue was interesting to me. I'm sorry to hear it's folding. I thought the layout of their magazine was convoluted, but they did offer great music/tabs and transcribed a R&B song or two. Trina
Members MattSkibaIsGOD Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 they announced that in the newest issue of GW. I'm pissed but Acoustic Guitar is a better mag.
Members digitalox Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 Never cared to much for guitar world acoustic either myself. Acoustic Guitar, and Frets which I read is also canceled! I really enjoyed Frets. Sad that all the mags are getting canceled. Soon all that's left on the shelves will be those $15 mags from the UK (not that I have anything against them, but i don't want to buy $15 mags). So is anyone else actually bummed about Frets???

That explains why Frets didn't bother to mail a renewal subscription bill. I liked Frets for their gear reviews and highlighting artists I other wise wouldn't have known. I think both magazines had very weak websites. If anyone decides to make a go at publishing another acoustic guitar magazine, they should to take some pointers form A.G. magazine website. Trina
Members Bernie P. Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 I saw this in the latest issue but I only sent in for a free trial sub which i"m canceling anyway.
Members mustangjosh Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 bummer I really liked the mag used to get it from the grocery store from time to time. how does Acoustic Guitar compare?
Members mdintx Posted June 20, 2007 Author Members Posted June 20, 2007 bummer I really liked the mag used to get it from the grocery store from time to time. how does Acoustic Guitar compare? In the past, I had found Acoustic Guitar to be a little high brow. I really appreciated the tabs from GW Acoustic. I noticed that Acoustic Guitar has been putting a lot more tabs so I'm gonna check it out.
Members digitalox Posted June 20, 2007 Members Posted June 20, 2007 i find acoustic guitar to have a good mix of lessons, tabs and articles. It seems like they do tend to review a lot of guitars that are just too costly for me to justify buying at my skill level even i could afford it. Is that Fingerstyle guitar magazine still around or is that long gone?
Members MBWendel Posted June 21, 2007 Members Posted June 21, 2007 I wasn't a great fan of the magazine.
Members bjorn-fjord Posted June 21, 2007 Members Posted June 21, 2007 I bought the occasional copy but I was never a big fan. I do consider it a loss though. It was valuable in that it exposed listeners of top 40 and classic rock music to the acoustic side of the playing spectrum.
