Members VengefulTikiGod Posted June 15, 2007 Members Posted June 15, 2007 "Collect and send in 'players' points' and win fabulous prizes!" On the back of every set of D'Addario strings there are prizes you can win if you send in a ton of string packages with "player's points" on em. One of the prizes is a wooden guitar stool. I'm a college student. I'm moving into a new apartment in the fall, and furniture isn't cheap. It would make an excellent playing stool or side table. I like free stuff. But I only have 75 points! I need 120 So instead of trying new brands of strings (I hear DR's and Dean Markley's are good) I'm stuck with D'Addarios until I can get my stool. Is it worth it? Of course not. I can buy a stool for $20 any old where. But that stool is WORTH something. If I get that stool, that's a badge of honor, that means I've burned through dozens and dozens of sets of strings. Sure I have smooth, leathery finger callouses, but that stool is a tangible trophy for the D'Addario player. So that's my story. Thanks for listening. Maybe I should take up 3 or 4 more stringed instruments to burn through more strings!
Members Dave W. Posted June 15, 2007 Members Posted June 15, 2007 Just checked out the stool. I found an extremely similar one at Lowes last winter for $17.00, bought two of them. I bought the 30" size and have trimmed the legs to get it to fit me better at about 26". No logo, but the price was right, they are really well built and finished, and besides, I play DR's.
Members brahmz118 Posted June 15, 2007 Members Posted June 15, 2007 I've been playing the Players Points game for years, and I keep losing. I wanted the '1st generation' stool. By the time I saved up enough points, they increased the price. By the time I saved up enough additional points, they replaced it with another design, which had no rungs to put your feet on. The current design is better than the 2nd generation, but I don't want it anymore. If I did I would get the $20 version at Target. But I actually found an adjustable one at IKEA, so I'm all set. Anyway, VengefulTikiGod, you can have 45 of my points if you want. Unless you want to 'earn' them yourself, just PM me with a mailing address.
Members guitarcapo Posted June 15, 2007 Members Posted June 15, 2007 How do you know that stool is even sturdy? Maybe those are loose stools. Is it possible you an find a stool sample somewhere to try to see if collecting is worth the effort?

If it's not diamonds, it's.................

Members D For Kate Posted June 16, 2007 Members Posted June 16, 2007 dont get me started wit stools. some are reliably sTURDY; others may be s**t or horrendously cr*p.
Members KATMAN Posted June 16, 2007 Members Posted June 16, 2007 I've got a bar stool that I bought at a thrift store for ten bucks,it's great! It's a little higher than I would like, but it does have a place to rest a leg,so I'm cool. Now those padded Fender stools, there's what I'd like, but not willing to pay the price for 'em.
Members soliloquy Posted June 16, 2007 Members Posted June 16, 2007 its called stealing it. they usually have an exit door near the acoustic room. or in the acoustic room. go in, try not to spend too much time there, and then RUN! the odd thing would be that the workers at the store would prolly not care, coz they'd be more worried with you running off with a gibson or something...which you obviously wouldnt do that is a possibility....but i'm obviously joking, and dont want you to get caught. try craiglist. they usually sell 100 points for like 20 or 30 dollars. i was thinking of buying that, but then changed my mind but if you want, try always buying those chrome strings. they cost 3 or 4 points as suppose to normal nickle or steal that cost 2
Members streetknight Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 This is the most comfortable stool I've ever played on. Hydraulic adjustment. very slight back support (just enough you won't fall off) and the ring at the bottom to prop on. Kinda pricey, but man is it comfy. http://www.target.com/gp/detail.html/sr=1-2/qid=1182279022/ref=sr_1_2/601-1409318-7421705?ie=UTF8&asin=B000FTH1LW

Does it travel well? What guitar would look good with it?
Members guitarist21 Posted June 19, 2007 Members Posted June 19, 2007 There was a really cool stool that said Fender as the MF stupid deal of the day a while back. Ellen
