Members burkedajerk88 Posted June 29, 2007 Members Posted June 29, 2007 I was thinking about getting the Ovation VXT Hybrid Guitar, b/c it can offer me both electric and acoustic sounds, but I'm really unsure if it will ever match a real acoustic sound. any ideas?

It sounds like a deep bowl Ovation all the way acoustic. All the way electric through tubes it sounds like Les Paul. You can blend anything in between. You tube has clips.as does vxt.com I got to see them being made in New Hartford in may at the annual open house. Played them too.Amazing!Needs a stereo cable one side go to an electric amp the to the pa or acoustic amp.
Members guitarist21 Posted June 30, 2007 Members Posted June 30, 2007 I tried one at GC the other day. The problem for me is that while its a cool guitar and all, I'd rather have a great-sounding acoustic and a great-sounding electric than just an okay-sounding guitar that does both. Plus the VXT has barely any unplugged sound, so I wouldn't buy it because I love playing unplugged. The VXT is a fine guitar plugged in, though (reminiscent of so many other Ovations... sorry to all the Ovation supporters!). I imagine that if I were in a band and I played equal amounts of acoustic and electric, I would love to look into the VXT (or other hybrids like the Taylor T5 or that Michael Kelly thing). As it stands, I'd rather have a guitar that I can play without plugging it in. If you play on stage a lot and need equal amounts of both electric and acoustic, then a hybrid is the way to go. But if you're just shopping for an acoustic guitar, don't get a hybrid. Bottom line, if you want a "real acoustic sound" as you say, get a real acoustic guitar. Ellen
Members AK47 Posted June 30, 2007 Members Posted June 30, 2007 I decided against the "Swiss Army Knife" guitar that does it all. This includes the "Line 6" guitars. If you want the sound of a great acoustic or electric you will have to play a great acoustic or electric. On the other hand I think it is the nicest guitar that Ovation has ever made. If you want to limit your gear for live band performance it could be a great choice.
Members D For Kate Posted June 30, 2007 Members Posted June 30, 2007 You dont get ovations to get ovations! personal sentiments aside, I think all ovation guitars that i have played are alright. to me, thyre more of a crossover instrument more than anything. of course, it entirely depends on what you do or where you are heading, musically speaking. youve asked a pretty much hardcore acoustic guitar forum - naturally youre going to get replies biased towards organic guitars. ask the electric forum, angels forbid, and you might get a different persepctive.
