Members Rich Posted July 1, 2007 Members Posted July 1, 2007 I used the thing live at my church tonight and it completely made the other piezo equipped guitars sound weak. This little LR Baggs unit has actually made me more confident live because I don't have to spend much time worrying about the wierdness that the piezo setup imparts to my sound. I'm not where I want to be 100% but am getting closer. I wished I hadn't have been so hardheaded about preamps years ago. This thing has taken the "I regret they had to hear it" out of my live tones.

I have the Behringer Acoustic ADI 21. Is there a functional difference between what this unit does and what the Baggs unit does?
Members DonK Posted July 1, 2007 Members Posted July 1, 2007 I may check out one of those. I'm thinking of putting a K&K Pure Western in my Gallagher and in my Aria, and will need a pre-amp.
Members guit30 Posted July 2, 2007 Members Posted July 2, 2007 The Behringer ADI 21 is a cheap clone of a Tech 21 sansamp which is similar to a Baggs para DI, I bought the ADI 21 and the battery connector promptly broke, so I never got to try it, The Fishman Pro EQ unit is neat, it has a built in compressor for tweaks, but the LR Baggs looks the sturdiest. Tech 21http://www.musiciansfriend.com/product/Tech-21-SansAmp-Para-Driver-DI-Instrument-Preamp-Pedal?sku=151799 I've had mine about a year now. I've never had a problem with it but what was wondering if it performs the same function as the Baggs. I use it with success with a soundhole Duncan Woody pickup. It definitely improves the sound. On the other hand I much prefer to run the Baggs M1 active direct, no box.

The Behringer, as previously stated, is a pretty good "knock off" of a Tech 21 SanAmp, just at 1/5 the price (about $40 instead $200)...unfortunately, the casing is easily broken plastic, instead of steel, so you must really baby the Behringer unit...soundwise, they're amazingly similar. Functionally, yeah, the PADI and the Tech 21/Behringer units are pretty much interchangable, other than the addition of the tube emulation (the Baggs lacks this)...I've never really missed that feature, but a lot of folks really like it.
Members OldGuitarPlayer Posted July 2, 2007 Members Posted July 2, 2007 I use a Fishman soundhole pickup with the ADI 21 and it works fine for me with the exception of it eating up batteries. I have never tried any of the more expensive unts so I couldn't comment on those. OGP
