Members attic Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 Ok, so I've seen him playing his Lowden, and he has the possibility to make it sound like an electric. Probably with some pickup, so I was wondering, does anyone know what gear can make your acoustic sound like an electric. (well, it doesn't sound perfect, but it's closer than electrics trying to get an acoustic sound)

Members simplygoodmusic Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 Depends what you really want, but IMO soundhole pickups work way better then almost anything else.

Members GUITKRAZY Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 Damian rice does use a pedalboard when he plays live- I saw him do Volcano, and he used a wah wah pedal with an acoustic- It sounded awesome!I used to have a wah on my acoustic pedalboard, but didn't use it all that much, so I removed it. I run a variety of effects through my acoustic including a Boss EQ, an Arion SD1 delay, a DoD Chorus, Boss Overdrive and a Rockman Acoustic pedal-
Members garthman Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 I use a Zoom 3000 - I've set up 5 or so banks for use with acoustic guitars, mainly tweeking EQ but also using compressor, chorus and reverb. Nothing outlandish because I basically prefer an acoustic to sound like an acoustic but you can get some really nice sounds around the root sound of your guitar.
Members attic Posted July 13, 2007 Author Members Posted July 13, 2007 Thanks, I have some effect units here for my electric guitars, so I'll experiment a little...I'll let you know what works good
Members attic Posted July 13, 2007 Author Members Posted July 13, 2007 Ok, so I tried it with a VOX Tonelab SE on my Twin Reverb, and even though the twin reverb is known for not giving a lot of feedback. It kind of did.Delay and reverb work fine, but whenever I go for distortion and the wah, it immediately gives feedback when I get some noticable volume. Would a soundhole pickup really do a better job?
Members guitarist21 Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 Would a soundhole pickup really do a better job? I use a soundhole pickup (A Fishman Rare Earth Humbucker) when I'm performing in a loud situation, like with a full band, because of the feedback issue. The sound isn't as pristine as it is with my K&K Pure Western Mini but it is good enough and gets rid of the feedback issue. Most soundhole pickups are single coils or humbuckers, just like an electric guitar. They won't feed back like a UST or a mic would because of their design. Ellen

I would use a feedback buster (rubber bung that fits in the soundhole) if your guitar is fitted with a piezo transducerif you are using distortion, highy volume etc. A soundhole PU will also reduce feedback because they are magnetic so only amplify the vibrating strings not the other componenets of the guitar.
