Members Dalalone Posted July 8, 2007 Members Posted July 8, 2007 Hello....my father was on the "Grand Ole Opry" in 1963 regularly...He played a 1953 Martin D-28....as well as several other artists at the time also played it onstage....It has a "custom pick guard added by another performer named Shot Jackson and the guitar is in some of the pictures of my dad performing on the Opry....You can go to Bobbyhodge.homestead.com to see the guitar...My dad said even Elvis played it......Anyway.....what is it worth today as I am looking to sell it. It is in decent shape and really sounds good when played!!! Please advise.....anyone!!!! Thanks......By the way.....I can be contacted at bob.hodge@frx.com.....
Members d28andm1911a1 Posted July 8, 2007 Members Posted July 8, 2007 A '53 with no issues and no particular history should bring $10k +. Yours with the provenance you have (get pictures etc together with it) should bring much more.
Members guit30 Posted July 8, 2007 Members Posted July 8, 2007 http://www.massstreetmusic.com/acoustic-martin.php?status=SOLD nice site
Members guitarcapo Posted July 8, 2007 Members Posted July 8, 2007 I was thinking around 10 grand but I'm no expert. I think guitars like that will bring more if you are willing to wait a while for the right seller. But I don't think you can walk into a store that specializes in vintage acoustics and just unload it for more than 10 grand.
Members PAC Posted July 8, 2007 Members Posted July 8, 2007 With that history and provenance, you should probably check with Gruhn Guitars in Nashville or Elderly Instruments in Lansing, Michigan. A consignment to either might be your best course. I would stay away from auction sites like eBay or "for sale" sites like Craigs List with something like your D-28.
Members rkyochim Posted July 8, 2007 Members Posted July 8, 2007 Hey guitar capo; What's with all the slutty pix? I thought this was a guitar site....I guess I was wrong... Why not put pix of guitars there instead of the skin???
Members marekk Posted July 9, 2007 Members Posted July 9, 2007 there is plenty of help at the "unoffical Martin Guitar Forum" and a popular classified section should you want to sell
Members leftync Posted July 9, 2007 Members Posted July 9, 2007 I'd say it's worth about $50. But what the hell, I'll give you $60. Where should I send the check?
Members D For Kate Posted July 9, 2007 Members Posted July 9, 2007 nice try, dalalone. anyway... Hey guitar capo; What's with all the slutty pix? I thought this was a guitar site....I guess I was wrong... Why not put pix of guitars there instead of the skin??? She's the forum muse, so bugger off!

Here is probably the best group of martin experts in one place - go down to the third subforum on Vintage Martins and post your information there. Also, their Buy and Sell would be a great place to list it. I can promise that if you put it on evil-bay or something like that it will be discussed here. http://p082.ezboard.com/btheunofficialmartinguitarforum
Members guitarist21 Posted July 11, 2007 Members Posted July 11, 2007 Definitely check out the website Freeman gave. They're usually really helpful when it comes to old Martins. Hey guitar capo; What's with all the slutty pix? I thought this was a guitar site....I guess I was wrong... Why not put pix of guitars there instead of the skin??? It is a guitar site, you weren't wrong, don't worry. You can turn off avatars if you find some people's offensive. Just go to User CP at the top of the page, then to Edit Options, then scroll down to Thread Display Options and uncheck the box that says "Show Avatars." Ellen

I find it fascinating to try to figure out what kind of statement someone is making about themself with their avatar. I've never met anyone on this forum, yet I've got some pretty good ideas about a lot of you based on these statements.
Members Jessz1 Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 UMGF.com. SHould make a pretty penny on that Martin if you can document it properly.
Members guitarist21 Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 I've got some pretty good ideas about a lot of you based on these statements. For instance... I play softball? Or I'm a woman in a black and white photo with a big long ugly recorder? I feel like if I walked into Terry Allan Hall in the streets of Texas that I would recognize him and his Guild instantly. Members D For Kate Posted July 13, 2007 Members Posted July 13, 2007 I wish guitarcapo could see my sly, cheeky smile and raised monobrow. gosh, She's sizzling hot.

Not one has been any more offensive than watching Whimbleton or the LPGA.
